chat if muted?

So when you are muted, the muted member used to be able to use the chat function but this has changed today.

Why?

Because if you are muted, you shouldn't be able to use the social side of the website. In theory, a muted member is an abusive member.

I know people will reply to this saying people get muted for no reason, yes I know that, don't bother.

Probably because it was a requested feature. It was weird that that it was ever allowed.

Yeah I was told that muting someone in the chat would be difficult as it is separate to the main server

I’ve had several 24 hour mutes

I’m just saying that it’s not hard to get yourself muted. Even saying homosapien is mutable in PM’s

Automute can get you muted for small things that nobody should get muted for, but if you get manually muted by a moderator, you probably deserve it.

Instead of actually repairing a broken auto mute system , why dont the site publish the words that it is designed to catch.

Im relieved that the word ' Pogchamps' is allowed!   🤪

Most people know the words that are likely to be filtered. There are very few cases where there is a substring in another word that will match, and even fewer where those are likely to occur in normal conversation.

Publishing a list just gives a heads up on what won't be filtered and allow people to bypass with no fear of being muted.

I don't know the full philosophical reason but online friends may not actually be friends and it's likely safer to maintain the filter than deal with the abuse some so-called friends can inflict on unsuspecting members.

+1, I agree.

How about maintaining the filter but allowing chess.com members to opt-out of the filter for trusted friends?  That way unsuspecting members would be protected but old-timers like History could get what they want.

That's chess.com old-timers!  Not real-life!  lol
