Thanks. I have a copy of My System and it on my list to study.
Chess Books
The Nimzo is a favourite of mine too. However, I've recently become convinced that the kind of knowledge to be gleaned from it is not enough. The argument is set out in Chess for Zebras by psychologist & GM Jonathan Rowson. The other three books I'm currently finding really useful are:
The Improving Chess Thinker by Dan Heisman
The Reassess Your Chess Workbook by Jeremy Silman
and Silman's Complete Endgame Course.
i'm a big fan of Drazen Marovich and have learned a great deal from him especially on the black side of the board ... his 'An Active Repretoire for Black (the King's Indian Defense and the Sicilian)' i think is a great addition to any library and a must if you feel weaker on the black side of the board ... his writing is clear, his examples very useful and memorable, and has really sparked my black play i think ... it made me a big fan of the KID and his book 'Play the King's Indian Defense' is a good book to explore after this one ...
he also has two books specifically on pawn play ... i'm working thru 'Dynamic Pawn Play' right now and learning a lot ... i don't know but pawn play specifically seems to be an area where most players seem a bit under-educated ... myself of course included ... this is helping me ... his other book 'Understanding Pawn Play' i'll tackle next
so it's not everything you need to know but certainly i recommend these books ... he's just one of those writers that makes it click in my brain ...
Guys,
thought i'd share with you my favourite chess book, certainly been the most helpful to me anyway. A real classic and worth a read.
