This list is finished and will be updated regularly. Last update: 19/12/2025
We didn't have an updated acceptance list for a while, so I thought why not make one myself? Below you will see a table with all my opinions about variants. You can quickly find your variants by looking at the 'creators' section. I will not rank any of my variants, instead I will just highlight them with an orange color.
Note: This is an acceptance probability list, not a 'how good a variant is' list. This means that I also look at other factors that makes it more/less likely to be accepted.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Disclaimer! This is just my opinion, and I have a good chance of being wrong.
Light green - I am not sure about a variant and need more time analyze it to give it an acceptance probability (?%)
Purple - Acception without any problems (90~100%)
Pink - Pretty sure it will be PRed or Accepted (60~90%)
Blue - Has a good chance of being accepted, but there might be some issues (40~60%)
Light blue - Has a good chance of being declined (10~40%)
Light yellow - Has major issues and I think it will get declined (2-5%)
Light red - Unfortunately, this is an easy decline / Autodecline (1%)
Red - Decline + Warning / Decline + Ban / Troll submission (0%)
The tc is pretty flaggy and sometimes you don't have enough time to calculate in the endgame, which is pretty much the only part of the game where you will need to calculate. Capturing dead pieces with pawns is probably better, and this makes the opening not very interesting in my opinion. Maybe a PR to NCV in case of acception is possible.
P.S. The reasons for a decline were different from mt opinion though, but the NCV part was true
Okay this is a hard one. At first the game feels like 'capture every piece you see' and I would =0 it, BUT a @timeveteran found an interesting pr which is a lot better and I think it has potential.
Amazing piece synergy. At first I found annoying the fact that your opponent can just rush their king as close to the center as possible, but it turns out this is not dangerous and gives your opponent a lot of tempos. Overall, uniqueness makes it likely to get accepted.
Unfortunately, there are too many strategies that make this game less enjoyable. One of them is placing ferz in the corner, which makes you more likely to win.
This variant is extremely unique, with a nice gameplay. The PRed starting position is a lot less forced. After playing both cursed and tiny sculptures, I came to a conclusion that cursed sculptures is a better variant because
1. The gameplay is more intuitive. You can explain it easily by saying: 'capture a piece with check to win' (although this is not 100% accurate)
2. Tiny sculptures are a lot harder to play and calculate, with stone grasshoppers make the game a lot more confusing
P.S. Cursed sculptures got a revision so this is hopeless of acceptiosn
Surprisingly, this is pretty well made. Hill rushing is not possible, and there is plenty of strategy here! However, I just think that the endgame is not fun with fatal.
This is a variant that will probably take 1000 years to get a verdict. It is really high quality, but the fact that it has similar piece palette to Solarion is problematic. I can see this as a good NCV, but the game length is WoF-like, and in that case, as a WoF Solarion is better in my opinion.
P.S. Nooooooo! The verdict message is similar to Sharp Incantation though.
I like the concept, but the execution is pretty poor, there is very little interaction that players can make, so they have to use spells on bots, which is pretty random.
On one side, this variant does not introduce new ideas from already existing Leapers and Sergeant Checkers I and II, but the piece synergy is outstanding here with an amazing realization of attacking power of colorblind pieces like alfils and camelriders which is not shown in any other variants. Pretty hard to say if this is getting accepted, but when the votes are split, there is a higher chance for a decline.
I was unsure about this one, until I remembered Crazy Cavalier. Both of these variants have crazyhouse, but Lifeline has a lot less strategy and variety than Crazy Cavalier does. That's why, this variant might not be good enough for an NCV, but it will be good enough for a WoF probably.
KOTH chess, but better. Unfortunately, what makes this bad is that when in crazywan you don't setup your king and you get stalemated, it counts as a draw which means that this is a forced draw. HOWEVER!! I think a pr is possible! If instead of stalemate loss we put bare piece rule, it will fix this and make this playable.
If two good players play this game, it would be pretty drawish because all exchanges are equal if you don't blunder, and in that case there is almost no chance of comeback.
During my analysis I found a lot of lines where black were forced to make specific moves or otherwise they will lose the game, and in some cases white will get huge advantage from the opening. DM me if you want me to show you the lines.
P.S Again, the decline reason is different, but i am 99% sure that white has advantage though
The gameplay is not drawish and not forced, this has some fun strategies, although it seems similar to cursed sculptures and CGA might not accept both of them for this reason. Out of these two variants, I think Cursed Sculptures is better (see Cursed Sculptures message).
P.S. Cursed sculptures got S-D. and I think this has more chance of acception than I thought, so I am changing it to light purple,
Stone generals and sergeants are way too powerful. Overall, the gameplay is just making your opponent's structure worse. Because of such piece dis-balance, i don't think this will be good as a WoF either.
This variant does not introduce any new ideas, and the gameplay seems like a worse version of sergeants checkers I. I don't think this will be a good WoF either, because it is pretty generic.
This should be an NCV because of its complexity and a variety of strategies. I like this a lot and think that this is a nicely made fatal+spells concept. The hill and the blue knights also add a nice touch here.
P.S. Now it is an NCV, nice! Good luck on acception!
Cool! However, because of crazywan, you won't be able to place all pieces that you win in an exchange, which means, it is better to stay on the first rank. This means I can just play passively, capture pieces and place them on my rank when i get them. See the game.
This is an interesting game, but I think this has too little variety even for a WoF. Most games will end up in about 10 moves, and you can get checkmated on move 1.
Another amazing pawn game submission by wolyn. I see absolutely 0 reasons why this shouldn't get accepted, even if for some reason this won't be a good NCV, a pr to WoF is possible.
Very creative idea with the use of long spell duration! The only problem i see here is that usually because of n-check the game ends in a 6 move check chain, but this shouldn't be a big deal (probably).
Very nice revision with a lot of stuff polished and normalized. However, I am really worried about the power of pawns. In some cases, one wrong opening move can lead to a position requiring precise defensive moves to not lose, but that can be maybe be fixed by removing torpedo.
The bug patch indeed came in the worst moment possible. I think this is too beginner unfriendly for an NCV, and I am unsure about this variant being fitting for a WoF.
Amazing WoF featuring an uncheckmatebility! The gameplay feels polished and fun, with sacrifices for checks being easily punished with claim win, creating a nice balance in the game.
The concept of having two royals with one of them being out of control is a unique idea! However, the interpretation is not good: in most cases you need to capture only 1-2 pieces to stalemate the bot. This removes any strategy depth from this game and turns it into shuffling until one side gets the pieces and stalemates the bot.
Good revision, this is a very enjoyable WoF! Being greedy collecting all the queens does not work here, but if you don't collect that at all your opponent will claim win - a nice balance!
This variant has an innovative hill + any capture idea, but other than that gothic chess and ashtadrez combined, it does not have its own, unique feel for an NCV
This is kinda also my variant but was submitted by 2b so I am ranking this one. The 3p stage is cooked, and the dead pieces are doing a bad job of defending diagonals, which are too powerful with dragons and bishops.
This is not well polished enough, and quick first move attacks are possible. There is a PR possibility with alfils swapped for dabbabas, but I would say that the gameplay is still pretty weird and unpolished. It feels like with a few revisions this can get a lot better.
Too many setup points. This makes it pretty chaotic. There are also some places where you can setup pieces to capture grasshoppers or promote after the setup is complete, and this makes. Also I don't see this as a WoF, because with a small control it is just too flaggy and ther is no time to think.
I would say any atomic variants requires 5x the effort to make it well. This is this type of example. There is no piece synergy: some pieces are way too powerful and some are useless, hill rushing is possible quite often, and most pieces just don't get into the main battlefield in time.
Sorry, there is no forced win actually, I gotta admit that and apologize. However, this game is still incredibly forced with black often making specific moves to save the game.
This is a good example of a nice use of an exploit in a WoF paired with a rare use of stonewall and the second variant ever submitted with having stonewall+atomic gamerules! The game is really fun and there are no forced wins. The only concern is the first move advantage and if the testers will like it, of course.
Unfortunately after further testing i found out that Green and Yellow have advantage, especially taken as a fact that they only have to capture all pieces of one side to win. This strategy makes Green and Yellow win every time, and even in the testing games GY win more games.
P.S I guess the self decline was correlated with my acceptance list, but I hope to see a revision with fixed advantage in the future.
This has the same idea as Clear-Out, coincidence I guess? Checkmating bots is extremely easy with strong pieces like wildebeest and dragons + crazyhouse. Most games end up not even lasting 10 moves.
I just don't think that the game is that enjoyable and it doesn't have a lot of strategy depth because of giveaway: you rather setup pieces back to the board to not lose due to bare or try to stalemate yourself which is hard when playing against experienced players.
It feels like normal atomic chess with some new pieces, and the piece choice feels similar to explosive magic. Overall, this is not unique and does not introduce any new ideas.
This variant has first move advantage, as on the first move red can grab a colored ferz. This variant also got pretty low complexity, with the hill being practically impossible to acquire.
CGAs are currently not accepting variants with the standard setup, and you just changed one piece. Rookmate was a rare exception and it was created before this rule. Overall, a knight royal does not introduce or add new ideas to the game, because a similar concept was already executed -The Pestilence's Conquest.
If clothing got accepted, this definitely won't get declined for being too similar to other variant. Looking at the gameplay, it has a similar aspects of cloister with some new strategies, definitely a way to go.
P.S Game 8 is absolutely different from Yolanda, so it might get declined for requirements not met.
This game features a very nice use of spells with advanced center and side attacks. The pieces flow very well together and freeze spells make this very unique. Overall, this is a worthy NCV but testers might not like the sheer amount of freeze spells.
Unfortunately, as an NCV this does not add anything new to the table. Variants like sergeant checkers have a better realization of the concept than this one.
Completely luck based and generic. This variant tries a mechanic that had been used a million times before without adding anything new or something that would make it less luck based.
All things considered, this is not as generic as i originally thought. However there are still some issues, mainly because of a lot of bricks forming quickly, this becomes drawish for experienced players, and for beginners it is quite easy to miss a knight or a grasshopper attack. Overall this is certainly not an autodecline, but i don't think it has the potential to get accepted.
Wow, this is actually not a bad first submission! Utilizing infinite jump spells in a pawn game is a good idea, but it was already implemented in Sergeant Checkers II, which is a better implementation of this idea.
No big first move advantage, good but unfortunately, i still think this is too similar to waui-shogi, with the only visible difference being an introduction of a chinese horse, which does not change the game feel a lot.
Completely unrelated to the ranking, but how on earth did you manage to test you variant with qilp????
Looking at this version i found it A LOT more balanced that the previous one, although i am not sure if it balanced enough for an imbalance acception (you can never be sure), but i hope so. The game is really nice and i like the fact that now you have to capture one royal instead of 2 to win, it is a nice change which makes it easier.
You should really stop rushing submissions, seriously. This game is just a generic combination of pieces and rules with a heavily untested position. PLEASE spend more time on your variants and get in touch with experienced variant creators to help you.
Pretty good revision! This is a lot less forced, and the pieces flow well. Now the question is: is this good enough? The concept is unique, so that's a check, the gamerules are pretty reasonable, i just don;t understand why Game of points is on. The gameplay is interesting, but it is not good enough for an NCV, not much strategy, better WoF, in which case i will reevaluate this.
I see the vision, but it is not convincing enough. This has extremely low complexity, lower than a lot of other WoFs, and even if it is fun to play that is not an excuse. After playing multiple games I wouldn't say that I hate it, but I don't love it either.
