Club redesign bug - unable to create thematic matches

Problem

I am trying to create a thematic daily club match using the updated workflow, but I am unable to do so. Game types of "Book Opening" and "Custom FEN" cannot be created.

Steps to reproduce - Book Opening

  1. Go to create a new daily club match using the updated workflow
  2. Change the "Game Type" parameter to "Book Opening". A new field should appear, "Book Opening"
  3. Select a book opening from the drop-down menu such as King's Indian Defense
  4. Fill out the required parameters and send the challenge
  5. Notice an error appears on the top of the screen and the challenge is not created

Steps to reproduce - Custom FEN

  1. Go to create a new daily club match using the updated workflow
  2. Change the "Game Type" parameter to "Custom FEN". A new field should appear, "Custom FEN"
  3. Enter a valid FEN into the text field that appears
  4. Fill out the required parameters and send the challenge
  5. Notice an error appears on the top of the screen and the challenge is not created

Workaround (EDIT - DOES NOT WORK)

Unfortunately, the only way to get around this is to leave beta to make these types of challenges. When I left beta and tried with the existing workflow, it worked as expected with the same parameters.

Hey there!

I was doing some testing yesterday and discovered this issue while testing something else. I have reported it already and awaiting a response from our devs.
It should be addressed shortly (I'll make sure the priority of this issue is raised, as this is pretty pressing).

MasterMatthew52

Thank you @ZaneB3, I appreciate it!

jdcannon

As always; I very much appreciate the report.

Update - turns out my work around does not actually work. The challenge went through but it showed up as a standard startimg position match.

So this functionality is broken in the old design as well. No clue how long it has been broken as this was my first attempt at thematic team matches in years.

Accepted one of the challenges, that my clubs received from @MasterMatthew52: Like the challenge, the match shows a standard starting position:

Fix was released for this today; please let me know if you continue to have issues.

It still shows "Standard Chess" as the game type...

Looks like the challenge is going through correctly though. Thanks!

By the way, great updates in the latest release! happy.png

Here's the screenshot from the match:

and one from trying to create a challenge from my side with the challenge button:

Wrong preview (game type wrong and quick description missing). Partial inactive button.

You'll find a lot some examples of my third unwanted, unpleasant and forced time with a partial released redesign here: https://www.chess.com/clubs/forum/view/club-redesign-five-questions-to-jdcannon Hope, it will be rolled back very soon to its designer office ... far away from public.

Working with designer to updates these challenge details view to ensure everything is included and looking nice.

For the challenge screenshot, do you mean that you attempted to send votechess challenge and got daily challenge instead?

Which button is partially inactive?

Tournamentix

@jdcannon: Challenge to the match in comment #9 showed a wrong preview (game type wrong and quick description missing) and challenging the 1 day per move club to a daily match with the "Challenge" button appeared as being impossible.

By the way: Just tried to create another book opening match and got only the usual becoming error banner instead. Looks, that designer already managed to reintroduce their bug within a few hours.

@tournamentix

I grant that the challenge details certainly shows standard when it should not, however, I have failed to get an error when creating an event. I made a video of my steps:

Am I doing something differently than you?

Tournamentix

@jdcannon: Couldn't see anything different in your video. Tried three more times with the new menu, finally challenging jdcannon with the same opening and always end in an error message, which does not give any information about the blocking element.

Switched than to the old challenging menu, could create a challenge which appeared instead of the King's Indian Defense with a standard starting position: https://www.chess.com/clubs/match_challenge/2760989

MasterMatthew52

@jdcannon try adding a rating range maybe?

I got an error with 'Any - 1400'. Then on my second attempt it worked fine. I might have missed something else the first try?

Tried to create a challenge as similar as any possible to @jdcannon's challenge as I'm well knowing how unreliable the entire menu is.

I figured out the difference between your account and mine:

The fix for this issue is currently rolled out to beta +1% of members. I was able to reproduce this error when I opted out of the fix. As release is at 1% today, likely to be at 100% by friday or maybe Monday assuming no issues found.

Don't think so as I'm part of these 1% who are forced to deal with club redesign. Would be really lucky having spend my day and could do so tomorrow with the good old one.

Seeing the increasing confusion within the last 36 hours, you're running in some great fun, if you continue enforcing site members to deal with something, which is somehow difficult to understand (because it's being less user friendly), which comes along without any additional information and makes daily activities much more complicate as they were in the past.

Its a totally separate code release. Has nothing to do with the % of for club redesign. Each batch of code has its own release process so you can be opted in and out of different batches of code.

Thanks, I'm out. If the fact being forced to deal with your – incomplete and partially dysfunctional – club redesign still creates difficulties to follow your "batch of codes", you don't need me at all. Should think about another hobby than paying for spending my time on Chess.com for running a league, which is badged "official" without being protected, helped or supported at all.
