Bit early to write off the Friday update. The working day has only just started in LA. Here's hoping the chance for a new year communication reset is not missed....
Club Redesign: Five questions to @jdcannon
@AndrewSC21: Yes, hope dies last. That's one thing I know for sure and very well.
You're right, if today is an eligible Friday for Jonathan Cannon, this may last another 860 minutes. Should still be enough to manage a first weekly update after 10 weeks.
I'm organizing a lot of Multi Club Arenas. Allow me to make just a simple suggestion:
For an unknown reason it isn't possible to limit the rating range for Multi Club Arenas. I've noticed, that players with lower ratings are regularly leaving Arenas after a few lost games and only players with relatively high rating continue. Probably there would be a good chance to see players with lower ratings participating more actively, if it would be possible to create Multi Club Arenas with rating limits (as it is possible for Swiss system tournaments).
By the way: After 28 months of experience I've an important doubt about the pairing system, which pretends to be "rating based". I've seen a lot of inappropriate pairings and I've got a lot of them in my own games. Probably that's an important part of the above described reality.
Since yesterday outgoing challenges to Multi Club Arenas aren't shown any longer correctly in the list of outgoing challenges ...: For me it contains only one of surely several pending challenges.
And lists like the below one appear, where one of the outgoing challenges was permanently presented before:

Both looks to indicate, that some code has changed, which caused the abortion of several upcoming Arenas and an even less useful presentation than before.
Will there be some help and support in 2024?
What are you doing with us?
I can clear all alerts ... and they will simply appear once more.
The notification system is lagging right now.
As mentioned in comment #1472 outgoing challenges have been replaced since Friday with lists of challenges. Here's a today's example:

This list contains several clubs, which have not been challenged to this particular Arena (Club Nova Scotia, Vojvodina Tim), one of those is even a disabled club (Team Elite National – challenged them last time a few days ago) and double entries (1WL LIVE tournaments should have challenged themselves and Los amigos of Chanquete twice). As I've sent these challenges just a few minutes ago I know pretty well, that I've sent two sets of challenges to five clubs each.
It's not really surprising, that those home cooked, designed and developed errors will create more dysfunctionalities, is it?
🍾🥂 Have you already noticed, that upcoming and current events can be filtered now ...? 🎁🥳
... by the way: "Toasted" notifications still show some damage ..., perhaps caused by their long lasting overheating. 🙉🙈🙊
there's a filter on "Past Events" so you can choose to see Vote Chess games only (completed ones), but there's no similar filter on "Current Events" which would allow seeing running Vote Chess games only. Can such a filter be added?
It's coming. Just need some time.
.
Well, after a four months long lasting journey the filter has made it from announcement to production. Still need to check, if these filters are perhaps a Beta limited feature ...
[Update] Just checked it: New filters only exist in Beta. World still has to wait a bit longer.
@ImperfectAge: Probably you're right. I've only joined Beta to create this forum: https://www.chess.com/clubs/forum/view/clubs-related-issues-questions-to-jonathan-cannon
Danny Rensch let us know, that Jonathan Cannon, who has stopped all exchange about clubs related issues during September, is our "point of contact". Let's see, what we will get next.
Already considering writing some letters to Santa Claus: Heared, that there is some chance to get an answer ... or a gift. 📮
Update to comment #1475: Just started sending challenges for another Arena and saw a list, which includes mostly the same errors (!) as the previous one:
.
There were no challenges to Club Nova Scotia, Team Elite National (still disabled) and Vojvodina Tim and surely 1WL LIVE tournaments have not challenged themselves. The only difference: With EGYPT CHESS CLUB another club is randomly (?) showed twice.
It would be really great, if someone would have a close look on this nonsense, which has been introduced on Friday and is repeating itself from Arena to Arena.
And ...: The permanently re-toasting nonsense is also still there (undeletable challenges to an Arena, which didn't start on Wednesday):

Well, the only things, that you can want from automated notifications are,
- that they are complete,
- that they appear (and disappear) immediately and
- that they are reliable.
On Chess.com they are as incomplete as before, they only partially appear (and disappear) immediately and are known for being extremely unreliable.
That's far away from being user friendly.
What's new? Nothing about the badly implemented already existing notifications (beside seing them lagging now). We got an additional variant of notifications, which introduces additional options of annoyances like
- being "unclearable" and very difficult to ignore,
- amplifying the negative impact of spamming
- and becoming accidentally undeleteable on their fly to dysfunctionality.
Wouldn't it be easier, more user friendly and efficient to work directly to reduce existing problems instead of creating a few new ones ... (perhaps hoping that users will forget about the previous ones ...)?
BTW did anyone test if invites are reliable? They goes through the same system as challenge notifications...
During the last few days it has happened three times to me, that Chess.com logged me out while typing a message. While tryinv sending the message there was a red banner, all typed text was lost and I had to log in to re-type my message.
Today I've got logged out twice within less than three minutes. Is such an increased level of unfriendly actions really necessary for Chess.com to manage their servers?
Just as a reminder: The "toasted" nonsense is still there:
.
And ... I've a question: What's precisely a "point of contact" at Chess.com?
Clubs, their admins and leagues were told by CCO Danny Rensch, that Jonathan Cannon is their "point of contact". Wikipedia describes those points of contact as very attentive and reactive.
Jonathan doesn't have posted a single line in public about clubs related issues (while being responsible for ALL of them) since September 2023.

I've noticed, that there are less comments: Any idea, who's account is muted or has been closed?
By the way: Beside some friendly words 2024 looks to continue the negative development from 2023 – servers are crashing Arenas, @jdcannon doesn't want to exchange with club admins about clubs related issues and looks also to have just another week without a Friday.
