Club Redesign: Five questions to @jdcannon

Pictures get cropped since 21 days on mobile browsers and 19 days on the website.

Last week's weeks live server restart made "toasted" notifications partially undeleteable and crashed a lot of Multi Club Arenas.

The new presentation for challenges to them looks to have some errors and surely an incomplete code.

Now first players are complaining, that make moves in their daily games: https://www.chess.com/clubs/forum/view/daily-bug-8

What will we get next? Some more annoyances, a few explications ... at least and finally another clubs progress update?

What precisely may we expect from "our" point of contact?

Today's fun: 4th 24h Winter Masters and Open are current events, right?

At the same time the 4th 24h Winter Masters and Open are also upcoming events, right?

Both screenshots are taken today at 09:13 CEST (12 respectively 13 minutes after the start of both Arenas).

By the way: The 7th 24h MCA Masters (Dec. 16) are still and wrongly displayed as a current event as well: If I remember well, the event has been crashed by Chess.com. Logically it has never ended and risk to last for a few more months, doesn't it?

... Devaluating pictures by cropping them also continues. ...

Update to the previous comment. Ten minutes later one of both tournaments isn't "upcoming" any longer:

Update 2: Twenty more minutes later the Masters Arena is still shown twice: Arena is "current" and "upcoming" as well:

Want another example how unfriendly Chess.com acts? A club admin has asked me a question about a Swiss system tournament and their pairing in round 2.

I've typed an explication and wanted to add the spreadsheet with all 40 clubs (and links to them and their matches in round 1 and 2).

Forgot – once again – to copy the entire message. By trying to send the message, a red banner popped up "Message too long" and all the text disappeared.

I can't see any necessity to act in such an extremely unfriendly way: Why should it be needed to destroy the entire message just to let me know, that this particular spreadsheet doesn't fit (while it does in forum comments ... and e.g. spreadsheets to round robin tournaments with ten clubs do in messages as well)?

Until now it's completely impossible to know, what's allowed and what's not allowed, where Chess.com's limits are and why they are there ... It's all about "try and error" or "begging and hoping".

I have experienced other online sites that do the same thing – it is very frustrating.

Other sites clearly state that there is an XYZ Character Limit in the text box, or the input simply stops when the user reaches the unknown character limit.

This could be a friendly and helpful fix for the users.

@Boone2023: "Friendly and helpful" and Chess.com sounds like a clash of two galaxies.

Just seen a club with four fictive "current" events:

In the event of a real "current" event, it's difficult for their members to find the only real one.

Our "point of contact" is online: Does anyone still have questions or want sending a message to @jdcannon: It's your chance ... to become the first of us with an answer in 2024.

How to get rid of toasted challenges?

This is the list of my incoming challenges:

These are incoming challenges shown by the "toaster":

The newly incoming (and again unwanted) challenges are shown with the arrow on the wrong side:

As a consequence they can't be opened and deleted:

.

What exactly is the value of "unviewable" and undeletable (permanently toasted) challenges?

Looks, that there is "some work in progress" to end cropping pictures in forums. That's great.

Check pictures in previous forum comments and announcements: They are still as ugly as before. That's less great.

Tried to repost a picture in an announcement ... and got the same cropped nonsense as before:

.

Looks, that this is one of the tickets, for which we should be informed about its number in Friday's Club Progress Update.

Cropping images since recently is very annoying.

Fun fact: Chess.com Community has announced unrated Rapid Opening Roulette Arenas. That's what you get, if you of the first of them:

Either they difficulties to create a "Queen's Gambit" Arena (as announced) or opening settings aren't correctly shown (who knows ...?). And: Were do you get confirmation, that your games will be unrated?

By the way: Ongoing work to restart showing pictures correctly doesn't include screenshots from phones yet ... How many tickets to they need to correct one of their errors ...?

Just made the test: Openings aren't shown for Club Arenas:

Thanks, Chess.com Community. You are doing a great job ... demonstrating that clubs can't offer their members all, what they want to offer them (due these many errors, bugs an incoherencies in Chess.com's clubs' code).

They have a logo, they have prizes ... and they most likely forgot to check if Chess.com is ready for such an event (in week 30 of Clubs redesign's post development process).

Today's annoyance: Every time you open a Multi Club Arena, which you're managing, Chess.com spams you with a "sharing offer", which only contains Arena's URL (something, which I always could copy and paste without getting animated):

That appears in Swiss as well. I asked about that when it started and hadn't heard if that's a bug or by design.

Not relevant perhaps, but new and interesting: https://www.chess.com/news/view/chesscom-announces-shareable-tournaments?alert=content

Yeah, I imagine it's related to that feature. Trying to find out if the dialog is only supposed to show for those.

Worry if you can’t tell if something is a bug or a design feature.

It's obviously a design feature, just not clear it's intended to show for club events.
