Club redesign suggestion - viewing event challenges

This is a minor annoyance I have with the club redesign, but nothing impeding the ability to manage team events. 

Problem

When looking at the incoming or outgoing challenges, you see this screen:

Clicking "view" will display the details of the challenge and give you the ability to accept/reject/cancel. This screen opens in a new tab.

My annoyance is that it opens a new /play tab effectively killing your session in the previous tab. Upon going back to the tab you have the seeks modal open in, you see this:

The problem is that while the original /play tab still does work if you go back, it doesn't update to reflect actions taken in a new tab. For instance, I accept a challenge in the newly opened tab and then go back to the old tab and find it's still on the challenge list, but the list is not current and still displays the challenge you just performed an action on.

Proposed Solutions

1. Keep the behavior that exists right now, but open the challenge in the same tab so the connection in /play is not severed. 

2. My personal preference, but will require way more effort and design change - Display the challenge in the modal and add a back button to go back to the challenge list. Here's a rough idea (ignore my drawing skills)

Upon choosing an action, the user would be directed back to the previous screen.

I prefer this because it requires fewer clicks to view a challenge and/or perform an action on a challenge (2 clicks vs 3-4) and it keeps the /play connection alive.


Bug? - Non-user-friendly error message

On the topic of the problem that comes with not updating the original /play tab. This is not a very user-friendly error message for a standard user:

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open the tournaments modal in /play
  2. Navigate to the "Seeks/Challenges" segment
  3. Click "view" on either an incoming or outgoing challenge
  4. A new /play tab opens
  5. Perform some action such as cancel
  6. Now close the new tab that was opened and return to the original tab
  7. You will see the challenge list still open and the challenge you just canceled is still on the list
  8. Click "view" again and you'll see the error message "Resource not found"

Expected result:

The error message should change to indicate that the challenge is no longer available, not that a general resource can't be found.

It should match the error you get from the following steps:

1. Go to your messages from CHESScom indicating there is a new challenge

2. Perform an action on the challenge such as cancel

3. Go back to your messages from CHESScom and click the challenge again

4. You see the following error

Proposal for a better experience

Note - this can be disregarded if either of my proposals is implemented. If an action was performed on the challenge, the list in the original tab should update to reflect the updated state.

Yes, opening a new tab super annoying. I already had a ticket in to stop doing that. Dev responsible moving across country so was out for a few days. I expect it resolved this week.

Will ticket you second report as well.
