Consider Adding a Puzzle Rush Theme: Defense / King Under Attack Puzzles

I think it would be an easy improvement to add a Puzzle Rush "Theme" category for Defensive/ King Under Attack puzzles. I am not good at deciding which of the potential eight squares is the best one to move my king to when I am in a "Rush".  I need to practice this skill.

Unfortunately, since there is no "Theme" category for these puzzles, there's no easy way for me to just work on improving my understanding of this type of puzzle in "Learning" mode.

I am pretty sure I am not the only one who has trouble with these. If you could add it as a "Theme" so members can practice it, I would appreciate it.

Oh my gosh yes! Like when you almost complete the whole puzzle but the king was supposed to go to one square instead of another even though both seemed to work. I think those are so unfair. If there is a reason as to why it should go to one square rather than the other then I think adding lessons for defending the king and making puzzle sections for it would be a great idea!

@KingSideInvasion has a thought that never occurred to me, "...If there is a reason as to why it should go to one square rather than the another..."

I always just assumed there was a reason and I should learn what it is, but maybe @JDCannon is just messing with us! lol

Nah, Puzzle Rush is introduced to improve the pattern recognition skills! By doing that we have to recognise the pattern in short time! So it will not be good if we give any theme in to it ! happy.png

Hope you understood!

@addimes "it will not be good if we give any theme in to it!"

There are already a list of "Themes" to chose from when you are in Learning mode. That's not what is new. The Themes just letting you practice specific types of puzzles that some players may not be as good at. For example, Forks, Pins, X-Ray Attacks, etc.

In Learning mode you can practice without the time pressure. Basically, the idea is that to learn how to solve the problems quickly, you have to be able to solve them slowly first, and then practice until you get faster.

You can learn puzzles using the learn mode! That's why there is an option like that! I said its not good to put themes in Puzzle Rush!

@aadimes Yes. I mean in the learning mode. I don't want to change the five minute Puzzle Rush games at all.
As far as I know, there isn't a learning mode theme for those puzzles where you have to decide which square to move the king to. Those are hard for me to solve quickly, so I need to practice. I hope they might be able to add a "Theme" so I can practice them in learning mode and eventually improve my puzzle rush score.

Oh yeah !

There is a learning mode where you can put the tags in which you are weak and try to solve those puzzles only and there will not be time pressure It will not affect your puzzles rating also!

Good idea! But if you think about it learning attacking puzzles will help you defend since it will help you know what to keep an eye out for.

yeah but i did not like the idea of putting themes in puzzle rush it should not be allowed or if it is going to be allowed the score by changing the theme should not be counted in leaderboard

@JDCannon Yes, attacking and defending are two sides of the same coin. Okay, somehow everyone has gotten this confused, so I must have botched my first cut. I will try another way and rephrase it as a question.

Here it is:

In learning mode, how can I practice the puzzles where the king is in check and you have to decide where to move?
