Question: when a plane lands, do you clap?

Am I supposed to be happy we didn't crash, or is it a sign of respect to the pilot?

It's still pretty common for people to clap. I took two flights this week and the pilot(s) got a standing ovation both times. Autopilot is taking over aviation nowadays...
