Counter the DANISH GAMBIT

Hey Boomers!

When I started out chess, I always played the Danish Gambit. Recently, I played against someone who played the Danish Gambit and I thought to make a YouTube video on how to counter against it. I had extra time today (rare indeed!) so I decided to give it a shot.

It would be really awesome if you guys can give me some constructive criticism:
- Is my voice too low?
- Is the music too loud?
- Is the video too short/long?
- Am I talking too fast?
- Is it useful at all?
- Does it have any replay value at all?
- Am I too sexy?
- And so on...

I think the music is slightly too loud and there is no computer analysis

Need more lines

The video quality is good. I have one suggestion about the layout, and a few notes about your repertoire idea.

Layout: I don't know if having empty Twitch/ChessTV chats is the best way to use your space.

Repertoire:

After e4 e5 d4 exd4 c3 d5, you put Qxd4 as the main move for White. However, you missed a possibility in the spirit of the Danish:

Also, in the end position, I would personally prefer Bb5! Bg4 allows Qc6+ with a repetition, and the bishop isn't as well placed on a4 as on b5.

All in all, though, a pretty high-quality video!

hey man. watched it, it was good. you were talking a bit too fast but that wasn't really bothering. the main bothering thing is that you only followed a single line. when your making videos about openings most important thing to me is that you cover all the moves that look interesting. good job anyway happy.png

Ok, it is confirmed. I will show you all my chess analysis videos before posting. LOL. You are absolutely right. I've never seen exd5 in my level!

Thanks for the beautiful response! @chessicallyinclined

@daniel_lang - music too loud. Got it. Would no music be better? And about the computer analysis... I'll try to add it in some parts!
@dead_divert - ok, do more lines. Got it! Thanks man.

Thanks @myteachersam

Also, I checked my line with ChessBase. It appears that the strongest option for Black is 4...Nf6! with the idea of taking back with the Knight, thus preventing the Queen from coming under attack. If 5. Qxd4, then it transposes to your line (if White tried exd5 instead of e5).

Nc6 is a very crazy thing to do. He just takes the knight because his queen is protected!

Ah, I see you deleted your comment... happy.png

@chessicallyinclined
5. Qxd4, Nxd5 - would you do this move next?

Avatar of ChessicallyInclined

@myteachersam: That's probably correct.

@chessicallyinclined Thanks for the wisdom. Always appreciate it. happy.png

you can make ur video in the chess.com analysis board with evaluation and lines on. I mean the one in live chess

4..Qxd5 is the most practical repertoire choice, as it also works against the goring (1 e4 e5 2 Nf3 Nc6 3 d4 exd4 4 c3 d5 5 exd5, and you can't play Nf6 because of dxc6, but Qxd5 will most likely transpose to the anti-danish - or is it the anti-danish that transposes to the goring...?)

i believe the main line is more than enough as it kills the action and leaves white uncomfortable. 1 e4 e5 2 d4 exd4 3 Nf3 Nc6 4 c3 d5 5 exd5 Qxd5 6 cxd4 Bg4 7 Nc3 Bb4 8 Be2 Bxf3 9 Bxf3 Qc4

my old personal analysis also shows that, in the danish, black can play for more and hold onto the pawns with an advantage, by just taking everything and generally playing ..Bb4+ ..Nf6 ..d5. something for readers to investigate on their own if they're gambit junkies (WARNING: it's sharp, it's likely the kind of position that white wants, and it doesn't integrate well with other gambit defending lines. still, it may be worth it if you're that kinda person)

Hi @Myteachersam,

Just had a look at only first few minutes of video (as I was in a rush). What I noticed is that many times you say popping knight/bishop here or there rather than mentioning the actual square like e5 or so. It would be great to say the actual square name to make your videos even better. just a suggestion happy.png

Thanks for posting this. i had no problems hearing from you and appreciated you good humour during this video. Is it possible to include some annotation, e.g, the moves written such as

1. e4  d5 or something like that?

These comments here are good as well. As a rookie, i appreciated this opening and have saved this link so i can play along on small board.

Badda bing Badda BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

@myteachersam. I really like your attitude when you start the video and introduce the Danish Gambit and thanks to your video I now also like the Danish Gambit (I had seen it before but I didn't know it's name), IMO the music should be just a bit lower, although the music you put is fine for me. You'r energy really makes want to keep watching and it does have some replay value. Your voice is loud enough and I think this type of fun videos are very instructive especially to noob players like me lol. I give your video a 9.5/10 happy.png. can't wait for the #CEG SERIES!
