Creating a challenge using a FEN position notation

In the scope of the PCL Thematic Endgames competitions (and possibly other ones), admins will have to send challenge with pre-defined positions from the Opening Book. To do so, you must start by creating a challenge the usual way and get to the challenge creation page.

There, go to the "Game" section, and under "Game Type" select "Custom FEN".

It will create a new text box below in which you can copy/paste the FEN string you want to load. In our competitions, the FEN will be provided in the competition's dedicated topic.

You can now fill the other parameters and send the challenge.

Attention at that point: the preview of the challenge will not show the correct position!

To verify a challenge you just created or received, you need to go to the old interface. Alternatively, you could accept the challenge and cancel the match if the position is wrong.

Here is what the "new" challenge page looks like:

And what the "old" one gives:

To access to the "old" challenge page, you must add the challenge number (the number at the end of the address of the challenge) to this URL: https://www.chess.com/clubs/match_challenge/ , e.g.https://www.chess.com/clubs/match_challenge/123456

Please comment if you need more clarification.

QUESTION --- will the Custom FEN code that the league provides also indicate which color is on the move (i.e., "Black to Move" or "White to Move") or just the position?

The color, and also move number, castling status etc. are all part of a standards FEN. BTW all FENs are already in the topic in the first post, you can practice with those.

I just created my first team match challenge. The position is given correctly, but the diagram does not indicate which color is on move. I guess the Organizers of the match still need to post a verbal comment stating which color is on move. Is that correct?

Copying my answer from the notes:

I see what you mean, and it's true. It's encoded but not displayed. At the end of the FEN string there's a "w" or a "b", telling who's to play. It could be added in the match description or in the comments. We will add that in the next rounds' sample match.
