wetywGambit

I have this problem too

Martin_Stahl

What exactly is the problem?

Martin_Stahl

The only issue I'm seeing is if you already gave a Custom background, the Upload button doesn't show.

Of that's all it is, change to one of the defaults, the change back to Custom to get the button.

So when I tap the ''Upload'' and Choose my background it does not appear and it automatically switches from ''Custom Background'' to ''Standard''

My upload is showing but when I change it ( Select the file and Submit it) nothing changes

It's possible your image is too large, either file size or actual size. I was able to upload an image with no issues.

I don't know for sure why this is happening, but I can make a few guesses:

  • Is your image too large (re: filesize and/or dimensions)?
  • Is your image a PNG or JPEG? I believe it must be one of those formats to work.
  • Do you have any active browser extensions that could be interfering?
    • Extensions like Ublock Origin, AdBlock, AdBlockPlus, DecentralEyes, etc... can cause some site functionalities to fail (especially functionality that involves reading data from a user's computer)
    • If so, consider temporarily disabling any of these extensions and try again
  • Finally, what web browser are you using?
    • If it's really old (e.g. IE11, Safari 10, or Chrome/Firefox v55) the file upload operation may not actually be supported by your browser.

If you're trying to upload something like a ~500kb, 1080p (1920x1080) JPEG/PNG, AND you're using the latest version (or at least a recent version) of Chrome/Firefox/Edge/Safari, AND you've disabled any active browser extensions, and you STILL can't get this to work, the only other things I can think to try are as follows:

  • Clear Browser Cache, Sign In and Try Again:
    • to do this in Chrome for Windows/MacOS:
      • press CTRL + SHIFT + i (Windows) on your keyboard (or OPT + CMD + i if you're on a Mac) to open Chrome Dev Tools
        • if dev tools opens at the bottom of your screen, skip the next step entirely
        • if dev tools opens on the right-hand side of your screen, we need to move it to the bottom for ease of use, so do the following:
          • click the icon that looks like 3 vertically-stacked dots (top-right of the dev tools window)
          • a dropdown will appear
          • the first field in the dropdown will say "Dock side" and have 4 options next to it
          • each of those options will determine where dev tools appears on your screen, and hovering each option for a second or two will show a tooltip that explains what each option does
          • click the one that reads "Dock to Bottom"
          • this will move the dev tools window to the bottom of your screen
        • now that dev tools is at the bottom of your screen, we can continue
      • at the top of the dev tools window you'll see several tabs ("Elements," "Console," "Sources," etc...)
      • click the tab entitled "Application" to open it
      • on the left side of the application tab you'll see a heading entitled "Application" with a list of three items below it:
        • "Manifest"
        • "Service Workers"
        • "Storage"
      • click the "Storage" option to make it active, and on the right-hand side of that screen you'll see a checkbox entitled "including third-party-cookies"
        • that box should be checked by default, but if it isn't, go ahead and check it
      • now click the "Clear site data" button
      • without closing Dev Tools, right-click the "refresh" button in the top-left of your browser window (to the left of the URL bar)
      • three options will appear - click the one that says "Empty Cache and Hard Reload"
      • this will ensure that all cached data for Chess.com is cleared

Keep in mind that once you do this, you'll be automatically logged out of Chess.com and have to login again.

Once you login again, you'll want to try to upload the custom background again.

If it still doesn't work, I'd get in touch with Chess.com support, as you may be dealing with a bug at the point.

Haha, no - you don't have to answer me, and I apologize for the long post. I just didn't wanna be like "clear your cache and try again" without giving you any information about how to do that, and I think that a step-by-step guide is the best way to share that information, so it ended up being a long post.

Hopefully it's helpful. If not, what can I say? You can always ask Chess.com for help =)

jcsknight

I just think that you didn't hit the green "save" button

Threepackabz

Is that possible ?
