I agree. In addition it could be good to have an option to have pieces facing the same direction as that players pawn moves. Also I heard colorblind person might prefer to have black pieces instead of green, so having that option could be good as well.
Different Board Style

yes i would also like to try playing with all the pawns and pieces facing towards the center as i often blunder to these sideways pawns as they don't capture in the normal direction

We need to have a bold circle (or a cross) in the middle of the board. Or any other way to mark the fields where a pawn promotes to a queen.

I made a sample of some suggested changes I've seen.
Changes: Added a circle next to players to indicate who's turn it is.
Added profile picture, time and score next to the board (Rating and names would still need to be seen on the bar to the right side of the board).
Added a cross in the centre of the board.
Added an indication on yellows promoted pawn that it is worth 1 point.

Here is another version:
No cross in middle
Only circles next to players
Pieces look towards the centre.

Overall I am happy with the way it currently looks when your playing 4-player chess. Other than an indicator of promoted pawns that are worth 1 point I would want things to just be able to toggle on/off (like cross in centre or pieces facing the centre).

BabYagun's idea to make it easier to identify promotional squares. Not sure if I personally would want to use it, but I have found myself counting lines to see where pawns promote.
@Martin0 changes look good makes the appearance better and the indicator of the promoted pawn i was kinda cussing it out cuz one should remember ur pieces but its fine i lose the debate among chess friends n bae.

the option of being able to rotate the pieces and face all of them towards the center of the board please see this image https://imgur.com/a/AEvwG , is an option i'd really like as i often blunder material to the sideways pawns that don't capture in the normal direction .

It is super annoying to do that and on low time.

Wow Martin your on a roll.
I like the circle and filled in circle sayin its your turn. I like the 1 in the promoted queen (or something that is easy for them to program).
I get the pieces turning to the middle and if I could have it my way I would want a button that gives me (the player) the option to turn them or leave them as is. I can see how it would help with pawns but I think (for me) I would start messing up on the bigger pieces as it looks foreign to me. That said I'm pretty sure I could get used to it.
The x in middle I could go either way I count squares as well figured just part of the game trying to keep track of it.

I can see why some players might like turning the pieces although I personally hate how it looks What if we had an option to view the board from different player's perspectives, would that help? E.g. a rotate function

I don't find the ability to rotate to be particularly useful. From a players perspective, you don't usually have time to evaluate the board from other player's views. Flip board is used very little in Live chess. Plus getting back to your view would require a few flips. From an observers and commentators perspective, it is usually best to stick with one orientation of the board, which is red's view.

If I'm spectating a game and want to root for a player, then I think it would make sense to me to rotate the board to his perspective. During a game I would never want to flip the board.
I don't find turning the pieces to look good either, but at the same time I do not want to ignore people that would want that feature to easier keep track of where pawns are moving. I would hate to be forced to view turned pieces, but think the option could be nice for some people.
I think it is a valid argument that it is up to the players to keep track of both which queens are worth one point and where pawns promote, but personally I am a fan of visual clues. Also I have no chance to know which pawns are promoted if I start spectating from the middle of a game. The things I would like the most are those big circles and an indicator on promoted pawns (pretty much the same as Renegade_Yoda)
I've already mentioned a go board as reference to the missing i letter in the coordinates elsewhere, but in that game they also use dots to represent some intersections like one in the centre. Those dots have no special rules with them, but just there as a reference to make it easier to find the right spots on the board. It's something similar to what a cross in the centre of 4-player chess would do.
I think to be more entertaining there should be different board styles.
