Dungeons, floorplans & maps

Hi chaps I thought I'd start a post where you can place your favourite dungeons, floorplans and maps for the rest of us to see and be inspired.

When I started playing D&D regularly with a group of guys we used to take it in turns to be the Dungeon master (DM) and we had many great adventures but it meant that we ended up with lots of different characters who had adventured in many different places. After a few years I decided to create a world map that would incorporate these places and thus give the characters a home. I have attached this map for you to have a look at.

Good stuff!  Oh, would that I still had any of my own hand-rolled adventures... (sigh.)

Along similar lines, have any of the "old-school" AD&D folks out there seen this?:

They've got SCADS of user-generated resources for the 1st-gen hold-outs among us, including a web-zine, adventure modules, player-character sheets of all description, etc.

I found the dragonsfoot site at the weekend and it looks pretty cool. I'm certainly going to investigate it a bit closer when I get chance. I break up for 2 weeks holiday on Friday and I hope to dust down the books & figures and play a bit of AD&D with one of my old mates.

Here's a map I recently created ready to start a new campaign.

The area is down river from Hasak Carram On the map in my first post - see below.

Nice maps!

Thanks, do you draw your own maps? I'll post some of my other stuff some time soon. I love drawing maps, designing dungeons, etc as once I get a tiny ember of an adventure glowing it soons becaomes a wildfire of ideas that I have to write down before I forget,

CaptainPike

Yes, I do draw my own maps. I have a little trouble with castles, though. Mine are ... lacking. I need to research castles one of these days and take a closer look at how real castles were actually done. Most of my buildings end up pretty much modern in design and layout with an exception here and there.

Rumpelstiltskin

THAT LOOKS F*** AWSOME!!!

glafnazur139

Thanks Rumpel.

I'm really sorry that I haven't managed to think of a way of getting you to play online. After thinking about it I realised that it would probably be impractical especially as I usually only get an hour a day to spend online. Have you tried again to get your friends to play? I'm sure they'd enjoy it once they got going. One of the most enjoyable things about playing D&D is the interaction between the party members.

If ever you do get a game up and running then we'll always be there to help out if you need any advice.

Rumpelstiltskin

Ok. Thanks

I was just going through some piles of paper as you do and look what I found. i can't remember DMing this but I must have done as it has my writing inside!

DeepGreene

Classic! I've got The Keep on the Borderlands, but not this one. :)

I can't ever remember DMing this but I must have done as I have written notes. Must have been donkeys years ago. I'm wondering if i can dig up the Tomb of Horrors sometime.

Hey, who knows this one?... "Name That Dungeon™" ;)

CaptainPike

Hello, DeepGreene. Seen your avatar but I think this is the first time you've posted anything since I came on board. Pleasure to meet!

DeepGreene

Hi! Really?

I come on here at least once every eight months, yell something to the effect of "THE NEW D&D BLOWS! PLAY PATHFINDER OR THE GHOST OF GARY GYGAX WILL KICK YOUR ASS!!" ...and then stagger out again.

CaptainPike

LoL, that explains it, I haven't been on board for 8 months. Yep, I agree ... the new D&D blows; I find, in my opinion, 2nd edition to be the best.

DeepGreene

I kinda skipped that one... Made a career out of AD&D back in the day.. Then flash forward several decades, drop in on a few D&D 4e "Encounters" sessions, RECOIL IN HORROR, then discover Pathfinder (an offshoot of 3rd ed. - or is it 3.5? - of which I have no direct experience via the D&D brand), and think "hey, yeah... this is going in a much better direction!"

Have actually bought The Beginner Box to introduce a new generation to RPGs, and it's probably the single best piece of gaming merchandise I ever bought. Too bad I don't have more time to play. Sigh.

CaptainPike

I shall sigh next to you.

*sigh*

We used to play several times a week when we had a group where most of us worked in the same place. Then, times changed ...

I have to hit the sack, though. I work 12 hour shifts and I just finished one, so I'm tired. It's been pleasant talking with you.
