Yes Gordon,you got it. The slaughtering of elephants to make ivory statues,whether personal or religious,but the latter would be an oxymoron wouldnt it?

Observance of the feast of the Sto. Nino is approved by the Vatican exclusively for the Philippines. Annual procession in Manila attracts 2M; in Cebu, 1M. Now, ivory statues, I sketchilly heard a priest was denying he was the owner/consignee of some statues/statuettes. I agree it is cruel to inflict pain, mutilate or kill other beings, or to encourage such activities. Humans should only kill animals to eat. 

What horrible things people do in the name of religion!  I KNOW that GOD Himself would NOT approve of killing one of His most majestic creatures to create an idol to use to worship Him!  In fact, just the opposite...stand back an appreciate His creation, this would be much more acceptable to Him.  Anyone who would purchase one of these ivory statues has elephant blood on their hands.

Idols (which I am indifferent to) seem to increase in significance in direct proportion to the value of materials used. Hence obsession of the religious (and vast majority of the planet) to the rare and pretty (gold, jade, ivory...)

Wow,isnt that an abomination. I kind of like Marks solution,reminds me of the old west. You were caught being a horse or cattle thief and they just hung you. at that point you will never be a thief again. But destroying wild creatures for mans pleasure,except for food consumption is not acceptable. Once again it seems the chinese are the biggest culprits for these crimes as well as some religious organizations,one of the biggest is in all reality a cult!

As to idol worship, I find it entirely absurd. It's more significant for me if I had  a new Mickey Mouse watch my friends and I could laugh at and make jokes about. 

And the music, I didn't have the faintest idea I was  entering GD Central when I joined this Group; but no regrets. Folks here are just my type. And the sound of GD is new to me, but brings me back to the years of Foghat, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, yes, Allmans

Ok Bokek,what Mark is alluding to is a GD song called "Estimated Prophet". So you didnt know this was GD territory but alas you have gotten on the bus and there is definetly no turning back now. So I say welcome aboard and enjoy the ride! Idol worship is complete nonsense and perpetrated by some religious organizations as fodder for complete obeyance!

Couldn't wish for a nicer, bunch, Chief. I'll search for Estimated Prophet on youtube and report on my reaction.

In the meantime, I want to start a new topic, one on GD, and music, and why I was not drawn to them when I was younger. I hope I get enlighhtening feedback.
