I see you've been a passenger on that New Delhi freight train too. It's my alternate form of transportation, the GD bus being primary! I'll bet looking through your music collection would be much like looking through my own!

gbrown057

Very heavy Dylan chunk though in mine.

M_D_S

I figured as much...mine as well.

Oh little feat fans then? Who was at the 2 days show at oxford speedway in maine with the grateful dead and little feat a show of hands please?

M_D_S

I wish!!!

What year was that?

gbrown057

Not me, but I was with Little Feat backstage in Newcastle in 1978.

M_D_S

I'm jealous! I never got an opportunity to attend one of their concerts. However, they did get the one and only fan letter I've ever sent. Undecided

gbrown057

Did they reply?

M_D_S

Nope...maybe never got it. The only address I had was their record label. As far as I know there wasn't anything organized (using the term loosely) like "DeadHeads", especially after the band invited folks to contact them, on the jacket of the double live album "Skull and Roses" (I think).

I believe those shows were in 86! I have tapes of those shows if interested.Ok Gordon regale us with the Lowell George story,I would love to hear it.Back to the dead,Mark did you receive all those cool things they sent out after you gave them your address?

gbrown057

Back in 1977 my girlfriend (now wife) and I lived in Edinburgh, Scotland. We had hardly any money but when Little Feat toured England with no dates in Scotland we decided to go to see them in Newcastle, the nearest venue. Since it's only 100 miles it was no big deal.

Anyway we got there and saw the show which was brilliant although Lowell did keep going offstage for breaks. After the show it was nearly midnight and before heading back to the road we went to the stage door and bumped into Kenny Gradney. We asked him to sign something and he said to come backstage and meet the guys. We went and they were all in a small dressing room. They were all very impressed that we had hitched 'all the way from Scotland'. We didn't tell them that Scotland was about 10 minutes away. Throughout all this Lowell sat slumped almost unconscious, clearly on something much stronger than weed or booze, which the rest of us were sharing. After about an hour the band decided to go for a curry. They pushed Lowell into a taxi to go back alone to their hotel and invited us to join them to eat, but we were too shy!! So we all said goodbye, shook hands, hugged on the dark street and went our separate ways.

I have since met Richie about 2 years before he died, and Bill Payne - both real gentlemen.

4. A few miles back, someone mentioned our greed and stupidity has led us to disaster. I agree but add: if disaster doesn't kill us, we could live to be greedy and wise

cladclan

Thank you so much Gordon for sharing that story,it is most exellent. I really love stories like that. It is unfortunate that his demise came to soon. I think some people consider themselves  immortal in some ways which is very sad.I am happy the band continued without him,I often wonder how groups who lost members would continue. Would it be the same or continue in a different direction. When Ron McKernan died I thought that would be the end of GD but it wasnt. However would I want to play keyboards in a band that has lost every keyboard player.

cladclan

Bokek I would rather be wise than greedy. I have never been selfish so I think I have lived it simply. I wonder what I would do if I were like the 1% in this country who have the money and control. I know that things would be a lot different.so I would suggest that I should should be written in as a candidate for president. I guarantee that things would change dramatically

5. As to politicians being insincere, I have come to expect that; I only seek the least evil. So maybe it's best we all keep out of politics, Chief. I think it was a British wise man who said "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely."

gbrown057

First said by John Acton, but he actually said "Power tends to corrupt..." Not exactly the same.

cladclan

Actually Bokek I would rather not deal with any evil. That is another saying of men, choosing the lesser of two evils, makes my mind question if this is indeed acceptable. Gordon can I ask you if you were ever a teacher or professor?

gbrown057

Haha! Is it that obvious? Yes I was a teacher for 26 years and now work in education for the Scottish govt.

cladclan

I knew it,I think I should get a prize for that. I am thinking of a free bottle of the excellent Scottish whiskey you guys produce. I am on my way to pick it up!
