IIMO best to look at the game/group/site as a whole are you happy with the product they have pushed out (main chess) is it better/worse then other sites.
...
If you think there overall good people without evil on their mind then trust them to do what they can when they can. If you think there bad people then ask yourself why support them and why are you here?
If by "main chess" you mean "classic 2 player chess" then my answer is: I do not care. There are lots of sites (and smartphone apps) where I can play classic chess. I have accounts on a few of them. If chess.com classic 2 player chess server(s) will be down for a week I may not notice that. And I will definitely find another place to play very fast. I purchased Gold membership at chess.com to play 4 Player Chess, I did not need it for the classic chess at all.
The 4 Player Chess at chess.com is unique. (Yes, there is an Android app too, but it is not popular.) So, if chess.com will kill the 4 Player Chess project they will kill a unique project. It is a pity.
P.S.
I do not use "good people"/"bad people" model usually. It is good to talk to kids sometimes, but oversimplified for other cases.
I don't know how long it takes to fix a bug but I've seen plenty of so called "fixes" cause all kinds of problems & everything have to be redone & everything takes even longer to get fixed.
Just take a look at the CHANGELOG:
https://www.chess.com/clubs/forum/view/changelog-9-04-2017
It gives you an idea of "how long it takes to fix a bug" by a single developer. For example:
09/28/2017 (Arrows, bug fixes)
09/24/2017
Teams mode was added. Rules are in-game! (EDIT: Temporarily removed)
