First Magnetic Chess Game

Sort:

The rules of Magnetic Chess are:

  1. Normal Chess rules apply, except as stated here.
  2. There is no check, mate, or stalemate. Victory is by king capture.
  3. White pieces have a positive charge, black pieces have a negative charge, with the exception of kings who have a neutral charge.
  4. When a piece is moved, it attracts or repulses the closest pieces on the same rank and file (all four directions, but this is blocked by a king). Equal charges repulse, like charges attract. Pieces are moved as far as possible in the direction of repulsion/attraction.
  5. There is no en passant.
  6. Pawns on their first or second rank may move two squares, even if they have moved before.
  7. After castling, attraction/repulsion is based on the rook's move.

woah... way to complicated for me.

oinquarki

Interesting. I would like to play.

D_Plew

Now you know what magnetic chess is.

oinquarki

You want to play a game?

I'll watch this time. This is much different than chess in general. Kind of like sumo chess

ichabod801

I'll play. I flipped a coin and got tails, so you're white.

oinquarki

1. e4

ichabod801

It looks like I mistated the rules. They should say that opposite charge attract. The diagram is correct. After 1.e4 the board is actually:

ichabod801

1. ... Bc5

oinquarki

2. d4

is this right?

ichabod801

I think it would be:

ichabod801

2. ... Qxh4

oinquarki

3. Qe2+

ichabod801

3. ... Ne7

I'm wondering about the rule "there is no check, mate, or stalemate, king capture wins." Okay, so there's no check. But I still have to stop you or you'll capture my king, right? And what if I do get stalemated? If there's no stalemate then the game isn't over. But if I have no moves what do I do?

4. Qe2

This is a very difficult variant to play.

KairavJoshi

if can't not have no moves. You can walk into check as there is no check. So if you have no moves that would be legal in normal chess, you basically lose. you have to move and then your king gets captured

D_Plew

I wonder if you could play this with the magnetic attraction\repulsion, down the queen lines, not just the rook.

4. ... Nd7=Q+

I think in this game you could have an eight character algebraic move (the normal max being seven): a double disambiguated knight move that pushes a pawn to promotion and check.

D_Plew

Clever.
