Full lista of players in any match

So the ask to keep records of all players signed up for a specific match. Both daily and live.

Currently, once the match start, all players with no opponent are removed as well as any record of them been signed up. This makes the job of an admin very difficult and tedious on various fronts:

1) Awarding prizes based on participation. The few times we tried to reward participation we had to take screenshots, which is inconvenient and does not provide perfect information either.

2) Proving minimum participation thresholds were met. When one team is below threshold the other must prove to be above the line. Currently there is no choice but screenshots.

3) Tracking for récords, keeping stats, measuring the teams true strength, etc.

Thank you

What a coincidence. Thanks for raising this issue. The admins in our club were discussing this very issue yesterday.

We decided not to mention it because we doubted that there was any way of CC keeping records for those entered but not playing.

I sure hope that CC could do it.

Thank you. I don't think the mechanic of it should be very difficult but I might be wrong.

Feel free to contribute to the business case. Any other important reason we want this that I might have missed?

Avatar of Karnakatz

I'm not sure that the reasons are too important or an issue, Fede. Different clubs will have different uses for this information.

At the moment, we're keeping the names on spreadsheets which, like you, is cumbersome. I've been meaning to do something about also having an addition to the, "Sorting members by", options and that's, "Last time played for club". This should be a fairly simple change by CC and be EXTREMELY helpful in monitoring members' activity.

I support this request. This is valuable information that can be processed in various respects.

I also support this request, much better than having to keep data on spreadsheets

Interesting.

Can you submit as a suggestion? We might be able to do something, but I think it wouldn't be soon.

Avatar of FedeBau

Sure. Suggestion as in email to support?

Avatar of Jokerwin

It would be great! Please @jdcannon do the best to implement soon tongue.png

Done. I was using mobile and couldn't find it.

I had never send a suggesting like this before. Kudos. It's really simple to use!

Great! Glad you liked it

Great idea! Team Armenia supports it. I hope many teams will raise hands up for this suggestion and we'll get the feature in the near future!

Great idea! Team Brazil also supports the idea!

My impression is that this request is rather low on the priority lists.

I think there are bigger thinks programmer will wish to concentrate on.

The additional information has no relevance for the matches themselves.

There will always be some admins interested in doing some extra statistics on matches, and interested in doing some extra things to motivate their players.

Admins doing such extra things usually have been putting their own energy and abilities into putting together such statistics.

In leagues such as the World League, we already provide quite a lot of extra statistics about many things --- probably more statistics than most teams will ever actually need.

My estimate is that the extra statistics requested here will not be actually useful for more than a couple of admins.

points 1) and 3) above look to me like just some additional extra statistics many will not need,

and point 2) could be done with much less effort, by simply putting a little flag or tick, to show whether the team has made it to the required participation at match start time or not.

@ilmago:

1) On this forum only there have been more admins that support the idea than the few you are mentioning.

2) World League is not the only league out there. For LCWL in example which is shaping to become quite a big one and definitely very active, this would be very useful. Specially as it moves to have chess.com sponsorship where memberships could be awarded to members participating.

Great idea @Fedebau.

Great idea @FedeBau. This would be very helpful in live matches. Team Iceland supports the idea!

chess.com has often been focusing on being simple and on being positive. With good reasons, and with good success.

They simply show all the players who end up playing in the match,

and they simply no longer show all players who drop out at match start.

It makes sense to not perpetuate any disappointments of players who would have liked to play but could not get an opponent.

Reminding players of the unhappy fact that they did not get to play, forever whenever the match is viewed after it started, will just tend to make many such players unhappier.

Simply showing the players in each match that they actually ended up being able to play in is much nicer, they will simply remember the positive experiences of whenever they succeeded to play in a match.

Chess.com likes to be simple and positive.

It can make sense to appreciate people who played in many matches, and who played many games for their team.

Connecting rewards to situations in which a player actually did not end up playing in the match at all is much less simple and positive.

Wiith such a system, you would be giving rewards to players who invent a strange strategy of registering late only for those matches in which they think they will certainly not get to play --- getting a reward without ever playing a game in a match, or getting a reward for being efficient about avoiding to actually invest any time playing for it.

Chess.com will be unlikely to rewards situations of "would have, could have, should have ...". They simply show and reward the things that actually happened.

"Collecting and displaying more statistics" is not by itself a positive thing.

* It can waste precious resources, of programmer time and of chess.com server time.

* It can make viewing pages more complicated than nececessary, and it can make it more difficult to easily find and focus on the most relevant information.

* Collecting more statistics with the aim of giving rewards can set strange incentives for people to behave strangely, instead of simply continuing healthily to play nice games of chess whenever possible.

Collecting more statistics with the aim of giving out forfeits or penalties will be detrimental especially when such statistics will be displayed for everyone to see. People will start being busy trying to think who should be punished because of this or that automated aspect in the statistics, and people will worry about giving punishments, and they will worry about things they do not actually influence themselves. Which easily and automatically can lead to very unfruitful and unhappy discussions.

League directors will produce the statistics they actually need for running the leagues, and they will not only blindly use these statistics, but also use healthy human judgement before deciding that a penalty is needed and helpful.

When you think that players of your team may be unhappy about not getting to play in a match,

do not give them consolation prizes for something that did not happen.

Give them positive things, chances to actually play, including for example arranging U_something matches with other interesting teams whenever you have the feeling they would like to play more for your team.

I disagree. As you can see a lot of admins want this. We have needed this for a long time.

Anyways, we don’t have to agree.
