Gambits against the Sicilian?

Hey all,

I coffeehouse with a friend Tuesdays, and our games usually devolve into rather closed, long-term deals.  Though still enjoyable, I'd like to bust things open a bit - since he plays the Sicilian by habit (accelerated dragon, usually), I would like to know if there are any gambiteering moves I can use to force him out of his comfort zone?  Any advice would be much appreciated.

Ta,

-PT.

The only sicilian gambit i know of is the wing gambit, but that's basically where my knowledge on it ends.  My database gives this mainline:

Certainly you know of smith morra, but black is usually in good shape after that gambit too.  Wish i was more help.

Yeah I pondered over the wing gambit, but it seems a lot of trouble to deflect a non-centre pawn...

Smith Morra is probably the best bet (which I guess is why the front page is loaded with topics on it!).  I could transpose to the Danish through it, which is always amusing.  I only have to worry he's the kind of guy who would decline it!

The Morphy Gambit goes 1.e4 c5 2.d4 cd 3.Nf3.

not quite a gambit, but what about trying the grand-prix? 1. e4 c5 2. f4

I tried 2.f4 in a game a little earlier, mostly because I wanted to test out the King's Gambit and my opponent decided not to let me.  I admit to feeling a little lost as to what to plan for.

Dan, I'll happily accept any advice.  I've already looked through the games you posted earlier, and they are the important factor in my interest in the gambit.

Riga can you post games on the morphy gambit?

All i can tell you is.. Just practice the accelerated dragon variation, and  other openings that prevent that, you cannot master an opening in 1 day, therefore you will have to take things more slowly, and perhaps play a gambited variation in a week or so.. but if you want a simple advice, dont play e4.

Just keep this in mind when thinking about the Danish, obviously the morra gambit looks like the Danish, but in the Danish, white is going for f7 right away, whereas in the morra gambit, black can cover up f7 with e6.
