I also enjoyed watching you experiment with 1. d4, even though I haven't played that opening in years. Have you had much success with it compared to 1. e4 or some of your other common opening choices?

I also had a question, though: in the line you demonstrated after 10. Ne5! g6 11. O-O!, I was wondering what the idea was after 15. Nxg6!! and Black's queen came to g8 after you recaptured the pawn (I'm assuming with the queen). I was thinking of possibly 17. Qh5+, but I wasn't quite sure if that works. Does it in fact work?

I've really been enjoying 1. d4. I've been playing the Catalan and the Sämisch which has served me well. My experience so far is that d4 + c4 gets me a strong attack about as often as the dubious stuff I was playing with 1. e4. Of course, there is recency bias + small sample size, I might post about it in the forum once I've played more games.

In the line after 15. Nxg6!! hxg6 16. Qxg6! Qg8□, there is a simple M2 with 17. Qh6+Qh7□ 18. Qxh7#. But actually your idea with 17. Qh5+!? is also winning after 17... Kg7□ 18. Ba3! weaving the mating net (M5).

Right, I should have seen that! Not sure why I didn't lol. I guess in that position all roads lead to Rome, essentially. Thanks for clarifying!

Posted solely for the amusement factor: the analysis bar is more like a seismograph then a chess game 😂 , as error followed error and missed opportunities one after another. I made a serious attempt to blunder my queen 🤦‍♂️ (realising a nanosecond after making the move) but I think that the time pressure stopped my opponent from taking advantage. Back to the drawing board.

I just crushed Sicilian Dragon with 99.7 accuracy.

@Montefioreman That was a very wild game! White should've just taken the draw when they still could🤣

@vtom What a game! That was a show-stopper! Excellent performance and use of tactics! I've had similar positions against the same opening, but I use the Alapin instead. I quite like it for it's subtle threats and the danger it poses to Black if they don't know how to adequately respond to it. There's a lot of potential energy in this opening, which I also like. Keep up the great work!

Used my lunch break to finish my analysis of this loss from last week and self therapy 🙂 for this game. This is my 4th game with black in a row (with another potentially this week), down 21 rating points over them (17 before this game) would have gotten most of them back with what could of been my best ever win.

My first game of the season I beat a 1800 player with the white pieces, this guy is a bit above 1825 and I've got the black pieces.

I lose 10 minutes move 3 and I think this is a critical moment as I am completely unfamiliar with this transposition and wanted to be certain there were no traps. I would stay around 10 minutes down on the clock for most of the game until we reached the endgame and I was playing on my 10 seconds every move. Bonus from this game is that from now on I will always know this move order.

I'm rather happy though with my opening play and alot of the middlegame ideas, some missed calculation showing a need to improve but felt (and was) in a better position right up to the point where my clock really started to get low. Hopefully can turn the positives from this into some better results for the future.

As always I'm interested in the ideas and comments from others and hopefully there are some useful concepts included within!

I was absolutely locked in for 2100 and defeated a 2190 in a opening which I didn't know. One of my very few games where i was focused throughout all the moves of the game. Are my middlegame ideas good? I seemed lost at a point so I traded rooks for an endgame which potentially could have been a loss. Somehow found the Knight sac while having a min on the clock which won me the game. Now I am a win away from 2100. Wild
