I will be starting this popular forum back up. Here is how it works:

Only team members of DUNE can submit a game to the captain (me) for the 'Game of the Month Award'. Near the 1st of February if you have played a good game that ended in January at this site then please send it to me.

Note: Only online games are accepted that have ended in January and played at Chess.com. Blitz games are not accepted.

Cheers,

Don (captain of the DUNE team)

There may be a a problem inserting games in messages and I talked to the owner about it. He said they are aware of the problem and are going to fix it soon. So as right now I can you a url of the game to click on and play.

Poochy28 took the Game of the Month for January, 2014. It is an excellent game where White tries to hard to win against the Najdorf and Poochy28 (playing Black) wins the game (against myself!) The URL is:

Congratulation Claude!  :)

Game of the Month for "BeginnerKnight" has been deleted after I matched him with usinf Fritz!

Nice game, congratz Poochy! Big pawn storm from you Arrakis but Poochy defended well so that the only file you could open was the f file where Poochy was well covered with his bishop and rook. Then that came round to bite you in the ass when Poochy attacked down that file with the aid of the nice rook tactic.

Arrakis09

Yes, he played the Najdorf very well! Smile

I sent him a trophy for it... plus he gets another trophy for taking the 'Game of the Month!

Poochy28

Thanks for all the replies. I've been studying the Sicilian Najdorf and it seem to be ok for the black pieces.

Game of the Month for February, 2014 is between two of our underrated  class A chessplayers. I selected this game because it is an example of fighting chess. Black wins a piece and maybe he can hold it?  But White finds some pretty good moves. Certainly an exciting game!

MehrdadDolatkhah

What a Pretty move: 20. d5! And what Black can do against it!? Nothing!! Sealed

An excellent game! Smile Thanks for sharing!

Arrakis09

Yeah, both players are pretty good!

However, "Capt-Peachfuzz" is one of my top students in the Chess class I teach at the Senior Center every Tuesday. Smile

Game of the Month for May goes to Rustythedog!

Every game is selected for a specific reason. There is no way possible that I or Fritz 14 can show the best game played, so what I do is pick out a good game that is interesting and has a theme that all players can learn from it. In this case the 'theme' is that you can not allow a tempo to your opponent by retracting a piece.

On move 7 in the game White tried to maintain his pin by playing 7. Bh4? You will see that this move loses by force.

Congratulations Jeff! (alias Rustythe dog) for being able to roll your opponent in only 23 moves with the Black pieces!  Smile

Nobody sent me a game for December so I'll post this nifty game for our 'Game of the Month'. Note the weakness of Black playing ...h6

Note that Black cannot stop checkmate! If 20...fxe then 21. Ng5! and it's gonna be mate!

LUCIANBADESCU

Sealed ...nice game Don ....18. g4 and  19. Nf6+ ...  two good move .... i trully say that i havent seen 18. g4    well doneSmile cheers

Arrakis09

Thank you!  :)

I had to think 6 moves ahead to see that 18. g4! would give me a winning position. I doubt any computer would find that idea.
