I bet that is one had the skill, one could make some really cool endgame puzzles for this variant.

neat. This variant seems really original for such subtle changes.
Yeah, I really like it too. The only problem I can see is that king and pawn endgames would be more drawish because you can use backward pawn moves to get out of zugzwang in a position where in standard chess they would be blocked.

The rules and goals are the same as regular chess except:
1) Pawns can move backwards but cannot kill backwards in anyway.
2) When a pawn promotes to on the "a" or "h" file, they automatically become a rook. When a pawn promotes on the "b" or "g" file, they automatically become a knight. When a pawn promotes on the "c" or "f" file, they automatically become a bishop and when a pawn promotes on a "d" or "e" file, you have the option to make it a bishop, knight or rook (but not queen).
However, the new promoted piece gets a new name: PBishop, PKnight and PRook. They are special. Anytime after 5 moves have passed, a player has the option to use his turn converting his promoted piece into a Queen. This would use his or her turn...
The rest of the rules are the same.
