i think it would be cool to have the group manager choose their top three best players plus them so it would be like a 4 on 4 tourney

Superpotato, you have a good idea but would it not be fair to include the people in your group who are not high rated? In other words try and set up team/group ladders so all members can get involved.

Myself and SonofPearl have a group tournament going at the moment between Kiwis and Welsh Chess.com. We got nine entrants per group and split them up into two groups by rating, group a 4 players and group b 5 players. All play every member of the opposite teams counterpart group at the same time. This system has a few advantages: players of all rating can be included, the participants don't have to commit to a huge amount of games at once (just 4 or 5) and there are no great ratings mismatches.

Setting up a tournament like this manually has actually been quite alot of work and we have encountered a few difficulties. So if you attempt it make sure you are aware of this! Smile It will be easier once chess.com have the group tournament programme ready.

I'll let everyone know how it goes anyway.

I just created a tournament for my members to see if they are willing to play against others in team competition and so far everyone is all up for it. Even my low rated players are all excited about what we are trying to do with tournys and team ladders.

So people lets start throwing out some ideas on how we should go about creating these group competitions. Erik you should have some good ideas to help out this cause.
