I'm from America and 26 years old. A friends family got me into chess and music and I played avidly in middle school. I started playing more consistently again after their father (the primary person who taught me chess) passed away.

Hi! I'm Lucas from Argentina. I always liked chess, but after the boom with Queen's Gambit and the Pogchamps tournament I started to take it more seriously. I started to get chess video recommendations on YT and I couldn't stop lol

That's hilarious. xD

Excellent reason to start playing chess.

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad.  I've lost my Mom, so I know how that is.

Did you start playing again to feel closer to him?

My friends lost their father, So I did start playing to grasp that bond again, yes. Grieving is a hard journey for sure. On a side note it is really cool seeing how everyone got into or back into this happy.png

Ah, misread that.  Oops!  Well, my sympathy still.

I'm Gian from the Philippines. I learned how to play when I was very young, and I decided to take it further by taking a chess class in college, one year ago. Well after I took the class I slowed down my progress by a lot, but because of the chess boom, I've gotten more encouragement to continue! Anna's channel was one of the first chess channels I've visited (besides IM John Bartholomew's Youtube channel) and discovering Anna's channel led to me discovering Levy's and Hikaru's channel, and overall I've just loved the game more and more.

Hi! I'm from Hungary. When I was 6-7 years old I really loved playing chess. But I stopped playing it, because I didn't have enough time. A month ago I saw the Queen's Gambit and I found GothamChess in youtube, and I tried to find a website when I can play chess.. Since I found Chess.com, I play chess almost every day and I love to watch chess streams.

Hello, I live in Colorado, USA,  My father played chess and sometimes people would come over to play my father because he was very good.  I learned to play from watching my father play although I never reached his level, I still enjoy the game.

Sorry to hear about your Mum. I lost my Dad to Leukemia in 2019. He taught me to play when I was a kid but I never took to it until recently. When he passed I inherited his grandfather's (my great grandfather's) chess pieces he carved out of wood.

Hello! My name is Luke, and I'm from California. I'm currently a third-year student in college. I got into chess by joining my elementary school club with some of my close friends. I just got back into it a few months ago after watching chess pop off on social media. I'm having lots o' fun! grin.pnggrin.png

I'm real sorry to hear about your dad! I've also lost a parent to cancer so I know how hard it is.

Those chess pieces your great-grandfather made are absolutely incredible! I'm glad you have that to remember him and your father by!

Hi, I'm from the Netherlands and 49 years old. I learned chess at school when I was around 11 years old. Didn't play a lot untll I was around 25 years old. Played almost exclusivily on the Internet, until I joined a chessclub in my hometown Emmen in 2018.

Carlosmasterguy

Hi guys, Carlos Santos here from Brazil. I wanted to learn how play chess since I was 11. Unfortunately I never came across someone who knew how to play the game. Back in 2012 I decided to self teach myself and finally learned the basics of the game. I bought myself a board and a chess set and taught some friends at work, I would take the board to work and we would play there. It wasn't long till I found chess.com. Wow how amazing was the idea of playing chess online. Chess is hard and it took me a while until I won my first game. After that I started watching videos online and tried to improve. I wasn't playing much in the recent years but after watching the Queen's gambit with my girlfriend it all came back. I never knew the importance of solving puzzles in the past, so that's what I'm doing differently now. Chess is an amazing game and I love the fact that no matter what is your rating, you always have room to grow. Nice to really other people's stories, keep the chain growing!
