The chunks in which you have been (the chunks that you have already loaded) won't change but if you start to explore new places and you are lucky, you'll find monuments that have been included in the new version.

well yea, but you still have to update the world first or the world may corrupt...

99% of the time, nothing you have already done on your world will change, but all the chunks you havent loaded will be updated
