What do the coming holidays mean to you ladies and men?

Avatar of gbrown057

We don't observe Thanksgiving here, so still 2 months till holidays.

I'd like to hear from the ladies.

We have no Thanksgiving, either, but I expect to be bombarded with turkey quips and jokes; and is it not the time for Black Monday as well? Then I anxiously await the season's hand-me-downs

I believe it is called black friday. But any bad day could be called black. I will see if I can come up with some turkey jokes for you.

Is it customary to roast a turkey for each household, Chief!

I'd like to hear from others ladies in the group too!  I love turkey dinner but sometimes we have lasagna instead...just because we can , and it's better than turkey!

Avatar of cladclan

Usually it is turkey for thanksgiving but some people have ham. I like the lasagna idea.

Avatar of bokek

I think lasagna and turkey would be neck-and-neck in terms of healthiness. But what sauce/dip goes well with turkey? Mint? Something else?

Avatar of cladclan

Cranberry sauce! Lots of different vegtables. Definetly winter squash. And a nice fat inspired gravy.

Avatar of bokek

You prepare several sauces for the same turkey, Chief? Unfortunately, we don't have cranberry here.

Oh, here's a question, Chief. Is pumpkin the same as squash? We don't call anything pumpkin here.

Avatar of NMCthehater

The turkey is served with a gravy prepared from the turkey juices...no lumps, please!  The cranberry sauce we eat is canned and served cold.  Pumpkins are a squash, the small sugar type make great pies which some strange people eat with horseradish on top...YUCK!  Pumpkins are easy to grow, but if you intend to eat them grow the sugar type....the jack-o-lantern type dont taste as good and have a stringy texture.

Bokek...what type of squash do you enjoy?

Cranberry sauce canned? Speak for yourself. We make our cranberry sauce from fresh berries.

Avatar of cladclan

Hey Bokek, you can buy cranberries cant you?

Avatar of bokek

We grow and eat squash here, but as vegetable, not as treats. Maybe 30 years ago we managed to grow one larger than the chest of our German Shepherd. We even took a picture! Unfortunately I think lost to the floods

I could say from personal knowledge we don't have cranberries. For the canned variety, I know of strawberries  and blueberries, but not familiar with cranberries. Maybe in the very special shops.

With regard to gravy, I try a recipe from youtube - drippings, butter, flour, broth, seasoning - but still haven't got the hang of it.

Back to holidays, we visited a friend yesterday, and she and her neighbors were already unpacking Christmas decor

Avatar of cladclan

Ah yes getting,a headstart on the holidays. Did you get any Christmas presents there? How about cranberry juice?

Avatar of bokek

Cranberry juice any good for a fever, Chief? Had a slight one yesterday, I think I have to take things a little easy today.

And Christmas, no, haven't gotten gifts yet, Chief, but yes, wishing very hard. Coming up with my Christmas list, but budgeting's hard work

Avatar of cladclan

I dont think cranberry juice will help your fever, but it is very beneficial for your system.I recently have started to take fridays off,I am finding it very hard working 7 days a week at my age. So I initiated the 1 day a week off. Mostly for my health and sanity.

Do you work for yourself, Marc?

Avatar of cladclan
