How come a tournament gets u matched with a blocked player repeatedly?

It’s probably a coincidence

Yes. When you are paired with a player you generally have the same partner throughout the tournament (unless they drop out). Im pretty sure you are paired with someone pretty close to your rating and maybe thats why you got paired with someone you had blocked. To be honest so many bug players block so many other bug players around their rating it would be kind of difficult to have the block in place during the tournaments. Having said that it must be pretty annoying. Maybe if you entered the tournament with a partner it would be better. but that does require planning lol

So yes, that I understand. But if there is an explicit option of partnering, why keep a partner fixed. I mean, even when there are other members with same ranking in the tournament. A round robin should do better, no?

It's actually random

It isn't random, the pairing software pairs u with an available, is unpaired, participant whoms  rating is the closest to your owns.

Closest ranking as in globally or in tournament (total win /lose basis)? In either case, why not a round robin of certain closest ? I mean at least 2 members are closest for everyone except 1st and last. Why not rotate between them?

Your partner in the beginning is your partner for the whole tournament I think

Not really, as i responded elsewhere, the software matches u with the (unpaired) player who's rating is nearest to your own.

I think, so not a 100 percent sure, if u both keep winning, u keep playing together, but if u and your partner lose then u will more often than not be paired with another player.

(Based on my own experience playing bughouse tournaments)

I doubt if that's the case. It could be, but cant say for sure. In one tournament, I had the same partner even after losing, in another, I lost 1st match and the partner changed (could have been dropped out) which remained with me till the end as we didn't lose.

So unfair, lol. Losing 2-3 games in a 6-7 match tournament grin.pngcry.png

It is my understanding that blocking is ignored for tournaments.

I agree. I blocked an obvious cheater and over the span of several different days and different bullet tournaments, I get paired against him over and over again. There's nobody that the computer has pitted me against that I have beaten repeatedly but somehow it keeps pairing me against the same cheat with a higher ELO.
