if you are super admin, go to "members" and there is a drop down for each member. The drop down has super admin option

If you are already a SA then cancel your membership what happens

"If you are already a SA then cancel your membership what happens "

You will remain SA

An SA can promote to any level and demote to any level.  The only exception if for a group's "founder" who can not be domoted or removed accept by Chess.com staff.

An "Admin" can promote others to Admin or demote Admins.

Coordinators do not have those staff changes.

If you are a member or Admin (not SA) in an "abandoned" group (The SA or others have not been on-line for a substantial period of time, then you may post a forum to seek the group's support for your advance to SA.  Send the the group and forum links to Chess.com for their consideration.

They will advise you on the decision and opportunity.

I know it states that admins can promote other admins, but I am not able to do that in clubs where I am admin, only where I am super admin. Has anyone been able to promote a club member to admin while only being an admin in a club?

That looks like a good point there.
Admins don't have promote and demote buttons.
Admins have kick and ban.  And unkick and unban.
Just two if I"ve got it right. As far as the member list Actions dropdown list is concerned.
Superadmins have a lot more on that dropdown menu.
But only superadmins who are club owners - can make somebody a club owner.
Which means they give up their own club ownership by doing so.
"There can be only One."   Like in 'Highlander'.

This is news to me.  I thought only an SA can promote/demote someone?

Me too.  I never heard that an admin can promote to admin or demote from it.
And if that were the case - there'd be Chaos !  happy.png

No I didn’t think so...

Exactly.  Kick Out and Ban.  That's all.

Avatar of Chess4Him

yes, that 's right.

I think it is fine that only SA can promote and demote admins. I would support a change so admins could mute. Mute is less severe than "kick" or "ban". No reason for admins not to have that capability.

Then why say...

An "Admin" can promote others to Admin or demote Admins.

I believe he was quoting the documentation which is incorrect or at least misleading. From the chess.com documentation:

Admin
The Admin role has all the abilities of the Coordinator, plus can write News posts, and invite, ban, demote and promote members (Admins can not promote to Super Admin, and can not ban or demote Super Admins. See this article for steps on replacing an inactive super admin)

It would be better if admins had only the mute button?  I think yes.
Them having only the ban button handcuffs them.  Mute instead better.
With superadmins having mute kick ban.

chess.com probably had a rationale for what they did though.
Maybe they thought that admins having only the mute -
would cause too much use of it.
It is a much better admin instrument - in intermediate situations.

Maybe. It is also possible that it is was an oversight or glitch?
