HOW GOOD ARE SHEFFIELD BUSES

Has anyone read the suggestions regarding a Yorkshire Champions League?

yorkshirechess.org/forums/topic/yorkshire-champions-league/

I've looked at LOCAL-clubs and the Sheffield League is massive, when was it set up, if it has always been so big, what did players do when public transport was the order of the day? Surely whoever wins the Sheffield title will win the new competition ad infinitum.

To give them a bit of competition, how's this for a suggestion. A West Riding League made up of teams playing at home in Bradford, Halifax, Huddersfield & Leeds (within a certain radius of each town centre, or close to a motorway, any thoughts)

The idea would not be to represent your usual team/town, but to put together strong teams to win the league and thus challenge Sheffield.

A thought. Rather than name teams after the towns where they played, they could be named after the nearest  M62 Junction ( or M621) and the league could be called the M62 Chess League.

Hull team was similar, they were massive and there were some strong players, winning the Woodhouse on a regular basis.  Why not?

I think that even though Hull won year after year, each competition was close( one year I played for BDCA final match of the season at Hull, our player offered a draw-because of opposite coloured bishops, he had a mate in three) that half point cost us the title.

With Sheffield it will be a walk-over. Teams who enter must have played the season before together in some form.

As it stands players play in Bradford&Leeds, Bradford&Calderdale, Calderdale&Huddersfield etc. I am suggesting a sort of Super League, where the strongest players are thrown together( no offence, I don't think YOBS will be in the top teams, but the practice!!)

Players may even be attracted from Lancashire. Monsters from Manchester, Hotshots from Halifax(?), Leaders from Leeds, B------s from Bradford. If Wakefield enter they have to make up their own nickname.

I was thinking of suggesting an A59 corridor Ilkley are fairly strong at the moment York would be the class act, but to attract East Lancs players I think a venue somewhere near Skipton would be needed.

As for the M62 corridor, I would suggest the following venues west to east .

Lindley Liberal Club. Clayton Lane Club, The New Inn Drighlington and The North Leeds WMC. Any other suggestions?

Cancel The New Inn, Copperworks are back at Gildersome, so it will have to be the Con Club.

Anyone else moving?
