How to counter the notorious Blackmar-Diemer Gambit?

My classmate sometimes plays the infamous BDG (1. d4 d5 2.e4) and it is very annoying. I end up losing 3 games in a row by taking the BDG, although declining it makes my pieces passive. Can someone teach me how to counter the BDG properly?

yeah just play french or caro kann if youre not confident

Playing black, I would counterattack BDG with an indian opening: 1. d4 g6. That would make white effort to control center harder!
