How to make a shield in mincraft?

I've been searching up how to make a shield, but it's not been working. I might be because i'm not playing a real mincraft, but does anyone know how to make one?

top row (left to right): wood plank, iron ingot, wood plank

middle row (left to right): wood plank, wood plank, wood plank

bottom row (left to right): nothing, wood plank, nothing

yea, thats what i've been doing, but it doesn't work. there isn't an off hand item either. is this because of the mincraft im playing?

um, not rly any version. its called starlike minecraft, they dont have netherite either.

prob a version before the shield was added

maybe there is sword blocking?

YES! maybe, cause when i right click with sword, it blocks. but when i have full iron armor, block with a iron sword, i still take half a heart when i get hit by a skeleton

you can also use birch planks dark oak planks jungle planks etc.

if theres sword blocking shields haven't been added yet

you can search sheild on it the clik on the sheild and then take you crafted sheild
