NOTIFICATION
When a match is set up you will usually be notified within your club via news posts, or in notes. You can find matches that are open to join on the main club page either in (1) UPCOMING EVENTS tab, or (2) DAILY MATCHES also on the front page of the team page.
Once you have clicked the Daly Matches link you will be taken to a page detailing all the clubs matches. The Open Matches section will list all the matches open to join. Click on the match you are interested in joining.
Once in the relevant match page click on the JOIN button to register for the match.
PLAYING
Match information can be found at the top of the individual match page shown above. Here you can find all the details such as the start date, days per move etc. At the start date the match will begin. Players are put on the the team roster and are ranked by rating. When the match begins Player #1 from each team play each other, Player #2 play each other and so on down the roster. If one team has more registered players than the other, (as In the example below where Kings Group have 5 players to Tayside’s 10). Tayside’s players 6-10 are removed. Leaving the 5 remaining boards who will then contest the match.
Each pair will play two games, one as black and one as white. These will appear automatically on your daily match list and the match clock will start at the scheduled start time. You do not need to manually challenge your opponent, this is done automatically.
HOW MATCHES ARE CALCULATED
Wins are 1 point and draws ½, just like tournaments. After all the games are played, the points are counted up and the Club with the most points wins the match!
Example:
In the above example, the ‘Turk Chess Players’ members won more of their games than the Iron Maiden members, and so Turk Chess Players win the match!
This is different than a tournament because the Club gets the win, not any one player. Also unlike a tournament, in Club Matches there are no rounds or groups. Each player will only play two games against their opponent, and then the match is over and points are assigned to the winning Club.
Hi everyone I don’t know if you will find this of use in your teams. With a lot of new players joining the teams I have had a few questions as to how they can join team matches. I have put together this brief guide to explain things. Feel free to copy this into your own team pages if you think it will be of use. Any errors let me know and I will amend. Thanks
