focus and concentration is key

the more you worry about poor performances, the more likely they are to happen

focus on playing the best you can with the strategies you have available

You should just focus on each game as it comes, one by one. Don't get to confused with opening prep, instead play what you are most comfortable with, and just practise tactics and calculations by doing a mix of puzzles as well as mate in 5 puzzles to improve visualisation and calculation. Look at basic endgames, and know which end in draws and wins, etc. so that you know which pieces to trade when you are up, and which pieces to trade when you are down. e.g. bishop and two pawns vs. opposite coloured bishop is still a draw:

You should try to rest when you're getting tilted. Don't get obsessed over your failiures. Taking time to forget and come back clean is important. Remember that tilt is always under your control.

Stop focusing on your current rating and focus on your game management. Also I'll give you the advice I try to give myself and now I've broken my Rapid Rating record which was 1429 but it's now 1431 after a drop to 1200.

Also note that your current rating is not a perfect reflection of your chess skill so always believe you can beat a higher rated player and even if you don't win you can gain knowledge from the draw or the loss.

I think to get to 1600 you already have openings you're very familiar with. So stick to your style. If you prefer to calculate through moves then stick with that but also learn how to use your intuition because of low time situations. And if vice versa is the case learn to calculate quite well.

If you prefer to play positional chess more, then learn how to play some attacking chess. And if vice versa learn some positional chess.

If you prefer to be calm no matter what, know that too much calm may not be good. Give the move you feel is the right one a chance too. Also there are situations that demand you to be a bit more emotional. And if you're a more emotional person learn how to put your emotions aside sometimes. It really helps.

Also, if you prefer to be inventive and creative in your play then learn to be more structured and studious. If vice versa then learn you need to think outside the box sometimes.

A main thing that one should focus on if they do not want to fall low in rating, is that after a game, the person should stop, especially if they lost the game in question. After the game, you need to review the mistakes made, in order to not make them again. Once you've mastered the problems, the dropping of rating will decrease.

You should certainly take breaks after games and limit games. I find my chess being of poor quality after around 4-5 rapid games. Thus, I stop myself from playing more games and make sure that every game I play is the best I can. After every game, I take a little break and do another hobby i enjoy. I believe in you!
