How curious is that this site ended encouraging checking riders while the cause is just not designing royalty controls.
I found my way on making deathmatch chess, aka walled king
Well, the rider with the largest range is camel-rider, so moving a king one rank further would prevent camel and rider interaction as well.

Can riders be blocked? As they're leapers I thought no, but now that you day,. I don't use riders as often.

Yes, riders can be blocked of course. If you cannot reach a square with a knight, you cannot reach it with knight-rider either.
It takes a bit of lateral thinking since it's not allowed in this site to have a mann (an unroyal king) when there is no royal piece on the board, so the solution I found was to lock the king inside a wall deep enough to prevent most interactions. In this case it doesen't work against camels, though two more brick ranks can be added, but it's unsolvable for riders since they have unlimited range.
With this exception it works excellent for FIDE as well with any variant without reaching riders.
