I found the 1st move of this exercise to be particularly difficult. I think (no, I'm certain) I would not have considered this move in a real game. The thing I like about these exercises is that each one teaches me something about how to handle particular situations I'm sure to encounter OTB one day. I hope I can remember the lesson when that time comes!
Newer members: You can jump into our study group at any time. Each lesson is stand-alone -- there's no need to do them in any particular order. So, just pick up with the current lesson (Lesson 4 ). Feel free to work through any of the earlier lessons at your leisure.

Today we start Lesson 5 of IM Silman's Chess Mentor Strategy (1) course (click the Lesson 5 link to go directly to the lesson, or the Chess Mentor Strategy link to see the complete list of lessons for this course.
As before, please reply to this forum with your score, time to complete, online chess rating, and any comments you may have about the lesson (what you learned, how you liked it, but no spoilers). And, again, new members are encouraged to jump in any time, with the current lesson.
Have fun,

Lesson 5 96% in 5:57
Really only one move that tripped me up. I think have seen this game or one similar to it before.

I finished with 87% in 17:51. I really liked this lesson. Later this afternoon, I'll summarize our scores for this one and kick off Lesson 6. At that time, I'll also post the full game score for the game used in lesson 5 as I'd like to play through the game to see how Fischer got into the starting position for the lesson. So...if you want to complete this one before we move on, please do so soon. This is your spoiler alert warning.

I must say that I am sure I have already played thru this game as some of the positions where "familiar" I had trouble with the tower movement too, as usual a positional move!

Rather than post the PGN and spoil future participants, I'll just post a link to the game on chess games.com. Here it is: Fischer-Giada 1960

Also, as a reminder to new members, feel free to jump in at any time with the current lesson. Each lesson is stand-alone, and does not depend in any way on completing any previous lesson in this series. So join in whereever we happen to be (currently, Lesson 6).
