Im pretty sure that the mini board shows the last move played, not the move that you are watching atm

It's actually always white's perspective; you can even check for yourself.

Maybe, there should be a setting for that because, in an OTB game, you can't really do that. Also as far as I can see, it doesn't give you an advantage.
When two or more games are open in Play, you should be able to see your game from your perspective on the thumbnail on the right hand side. As of now, the board and the players do not match up correctly:
As you can see, I'm viewing the game from black's (my) perspective, but on the right, the game is shown from white's perspective. What's more, even though the board is flipped in the thumbnail view, the names remain the same, indicating that I am white, even though I'm not.
