I haven't gone through and checked every recommendation yet but I would like to see a how your goals have changed thread somewhere down the line. While it is still early in the year, I have already found that some of my goals I set at the beginning of the year have fallen to the back burner because I don't have the time to focus on so many goals or I am not as interested in achieving the goals as I am others. As an example, one of my goals I set this year is to reach 1000 rating in Classical, Rapid, Blitz, and bullet. But now I realize the skill sets I need to achieve all of those don't overlap in a way that allow me to focus my efforts concretely. So I've dropped off my goal for achieving 1000 in bullet and instead have shifted my goals to reaching 1200 in blitz and 1500 in Rapid and Classical. I am also just not as interested as others might be in achieving high bullet rating. I think there could be some interesting conversations to be had regarding how goals shift.

My suggestions are:

  1. Training schedules of different rating levels: I would like to get an insight into the example schedules of a WGM, IM, WFM, and compare them to different non-titled players.

  2. How to properly calculate: I had the pleasure to talk to a WGM, and she recommended this to me. That’s one of the key factors to improve.

  3. One day inside a chess club: Perhaps you can make a documentary about that. You could visit clubs in different countries and show us what they look like. It would be interesting, and we could learn what a good chess club can look like.

how to avoid tilt would be super helpful if anyone has any insights

Tips for avoiding tilt:
 * Don't gauge improvement entirely based on your rating. Your performance on any given day will fluctuate. Focus on improvement in certain area of the game you are struggling with.
* Don't keep playing if you are tilted. Take a break
* "Respect" your opponent. Telling yourself "how am I losing to this idiot?" will only tilt you. Give your opponent props in your head but say "if I play my best, I can beat him"
* Play a slower time control where you can really think and get into the game. If you get swept up in the thoughts and calculations of the current game, you'll forget about all the previous games.

Title: Fair Play

- Cheating - how do you know if someone is?

- Stalling / Quitting games - How best to deal with this?

- Sandbagging (rating manipulation) - What's this all about?
... and why do I sometimes come across people who are gaining and losing lots of rating points for every game they win or lose. Do they have some kind of software hack going on?
- What experiences have you had?

pple losing or gaining lots of rating points per game means that they recently started playing in that time control

Or they have just logged back in after a long time away.

"Get A FIDE Rating"
- What level is best for getting one
- How many rated players to beat to get one
- The different ways of getting one based on your federation
(+I really find this one benefitial because I have been trying to get it since 1st Jan and failing miserably 🤦‍♀️)

Imo, Best way to train based on your game play would be nice, Like you guys should release a test showing the best training plan for you.

Because I see a lot of Intermediate and beginner players not having a proper training plan and that leads to other issues.

What do you think about this guys?

32piecesjumpingonaboard

The pros and cons of the different chess time settings would be helpful. Why play Rapid? What does Daily help with most? Etc. Thanks

I think there are thousands ways to learn. Anyways, I would value a checklist to understand how to evolve.

from 100 to 200: What topics should I learn?

From 200 - 300: what new topics should I learn?

....

From 1800 - 1900: what new topics should I learn?

Introducing Chess to Novices

Some people were recently talking about the most underrated component of chess. There was some debate, but, someone said the pawns and I (along with some others) absolutely agreed! That made me think about the pawns and something I like to do with beginners... I just wanted to share this with anyone who is teaching someone else chess who has never played before. 😵‍💫

Learning how all the pieces move can be difficult (FUN FACT 🤓: the pawns actually are not pieces; technically, there are 4 pieces and the pawn... in other words, each player has 8 pieces and 8 pawns). The pawns move once, except twice at first, capture diagonally, they get stuck, and every novice's nightmare... en passant! 🫨😵 The king is a bit easier to understand, but, can still be a bit overwhelming. And, of course, let's not forget the nuances of all the other pieces!🥴

[...]

Pawns are often overlooked and underappreciated (except by titled players, of course 🧐👑). But, this game - the pawn race - helps them appreciate (in just a few days⏳) concepts that entire courses and whole books 📚 are devoted to teaching! 🤯

I've seen this method yield great results - from little children to seniors!😍 Go and try this out with anyone you know who hasn't gotten into chess, yet! Especially those holdouts (after all, it technically isn't chess 😉) and let me know what your results are. 😃🤙🏻

I look forward to hearing from the community! Keep Chessing & Stay Brainy! 🤠

Nevermind, I made it into a an article on my blog! 🤩😁

Title: Physical Aspects of Chess

I feel like a lot of people forget to mention how taking care of the physical body can led to chess improvement. The forum would be used as place for people to ask how chess and health go hand and hand. Some questions that should be asked are:

What is the proper diet for a chess player? (if any)

How to improve your stamina during tournament play? GMs sometimes play on average 4 hours+ of high intensity games a day. It would be great to know how that is achieved.

Does good sleeping habits and daily exercise play a crucial part?

What foods should I eat to improve my memorization and calculation?

A forum on this would be greatly appreciated, especially with the fact that this information is rarely available or explained in depth

Interesting take on this. Also, nice to see another Trini.

As black, try Pirc/ Kings Indian against literally anything. As white, try the Italian Game.

You honestly dont, Just play 1 or 2 15+10 game a day, Review them and do 10-20 puzzles. Got me a score of 13 games 11 wins 1 draw (against a cheater) and 1 loss
