Inconsistencies in using site from Android, compared to computers
Thank you so much for the awesome report!!
You are quite welcome. If there is anything more specific that I can do, to help you test or simply to report back, let me know.
I am happy to report that today, navigating on the Android app, is much smoother and faster. I haven't had to back out and start over, a single time.
I did however, think of one other thing that would drive me insane. If I went into the site, through the back door as described above, and was doing something like, typing in a forum, and I caused my phone screen to rotate, it would automatically kick me out, put me back at the main menu of the Android App. My work would be lost. I can't begin to convey the level of frustration I experienced, since I want to be as kind as possible. ☺
I just double checked. Phone screen rotation kicks me out of the site, if I go into Chess.com, through the backdoor, described above.
Daily Tournaments on our apps is something we really need to work on. We are aware of it and we will make our best to provide the best experience possible
@davidkaufmann
I wanted to give you and the Chess.com team some time to work, resolving the issues that I described above. I have used the site for a few weeks since I reported and noticed some changes, but still some problems.
The first I wanted to address was the screen rotation issue. If I go into a forum and I am typing, then my screen rotates, I am only getting kicked out of the forum now, back to the daily tournaments menu, instead of all the way to the Android App menu. However, I was hoping to see this improved to where I wouldn't get kicked out at all, lose my work and always be forced to remember to turn off my screen rotation, ahead of time.
I have also noticed an improvement that when I am in any club forum, look at a post, then want to go to the next notification, I am no longer forced to go all the way back to the live tournaments menu and then reenter through the daily tournaments menu. However, if I am in an article forum, I am still experiencing this issue.
Thank you so much! We will keep working on them
You are welcome. Thanks for your your work. It is much appreciated. ![]()

The down arrow never works. Sometimes I just want to bump down a few lines and the scrolling is really sensitive. I am using Windows 7 Pro x 64 and Google Chrome, latest version...
I was thinking maybe if you separated the three things in actual space, from one another it would help, but that down arrow may need some additional work.
This isn't easy to explain, but I will do my best to try.
I initially didn't report this, due to the fact that, I had considered the site's owner's/developers, may have had different intentions for the Android application's development, other than my perception of it or perhaps wanted us to use a web browser, to access particular features, if using a phone or tablet. I can't vouch for how these things behave when using a tablet.
I regularly use the Android application to access the web, for making moves in games, but while away from my desktop, I do attempt to use it for other site services like forum posts, notes, articles, etc. I use a "backdoor" into the site via the tournaments menu button, then select daily, which will then pull up a page which shows forum notifications, in particular. That looks like this.
I can also use this link to access my home page, via this link...
I find that if I begin to go into a club like the Cheating Forum, or US Chess, I can click here:
...and I will be taken to the requested link, but if I am in a forum, or one of my own private clubs, I have to back out the page which shows the live and daily links, click the live link, wait for it to show the list of live tournaments and then click the daily link again, as shown circled in the picture above.
I have also noticed that the Android application won't show any messages in this screen...
....but will show them once I reach this screen....
If I didn't know better, this seems to be some sort of communication issue between servers. I am not sure if you have separate servers for the site's regular functions and one for the Android Application. Certainly there is a separate server that the cell phone providers use and yours, if you only have one. So perhaps it is the way the two or more communicate for certain notifications. Game notifications seem to work well. Messages, not so well, but regular forum posts, club notes, club forums and home pages are better than messages, but still seem inconsistent compared to game notifications. The Cheating Forum seems to work better than any other forum, but I am assuming this is because more knowledgeable and caring users give feedback, along with that forum's importance, give you more notification of problems.
I also have problems with scrolling and highlighting in Chrome, with Windows 7 x 64 pro
It will highlight far more than I am trying really quickly, the same with when I scroll down. It is as if the scroll bar and arrow get a confusion in function, when they get next to each other. Perhaps there is a way to keep the functions the same, put create a natural space between them ?
I hope this information is helpful in trying to work bugs out of the system, provide more consistency and providing more continuity for the site. Thanks for your hard work and encouraging us to help you.
