Introductions and Welcomes

Hello everyone.  It is indeed a great pleasure to be a part of GMCanty's ADMIN Team and his outstanding Club!  Please feel free to introduce yourself.  Please feel free to welcome our new Members.  I'm a 63 year old fart.  lol  Been playing chess since 1969.  My wife and I were friends with Bobby Fischer.  The last movie that came out about him was mostly lies!  I was 1980 Eastern Kentucky Open Champion.  I use to be a decent player; though I can still play Master chess from time to time.  Age and having had a couple bad heat strokes have hampered my playing ability.  I'm married and have raised 2 sets of children to adulthood.  I was born in Cynthiana, Kentucky; and now live in Eastern Kentucky.  Who would have ever known that when I won that Tournament in '80, I would end up moving here and marrying my wife!  lol  Life it good!  Take care and God bless!  Once again, it is very nice to be here and a part of your all's lives!  BOOM!!!

JoePanther

I think it's pretty cool that you knew the late/great Bobby Fischer. Congratulations on your chess achievements.

As for myself, I'm a USN veteran that mostly enjoys casual chess. I know I'll never be titled, but that doesn't mean that I won't try my best when I'm playing someone much higher rated than myself. I mostly enjoy the streams because of the great people that visit them. Chess has been one of the things that helps me fight my depression symptoms and I'm thankful for this fun game. I enjoy doing chess tactics when I'm on the bus; it's a great time killer whilst riding through the streets of Pittsburgh. We In Hurrrr

Nice to meet you, @JoePanther!  My dad was in the USN.  He ended up dying of cancer because of coming in contact with Agent Orange in The Nam.  I was old enough to go there while in High School, but mom and dad said, Oh, no you don't!  lol  I greatly appreciate your Service to America, Bro!!!

RedThunderheart

@JeffreyCai2009  Thank-you

GMCanty

YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME. WE IN HERE. This is what we do. We win and we get better! LETS GO.

RedThunderheart

@NM GMCanty  Right-on Bro!!!  Take care,man!

RedThunderheart

@bashbush  I like Magnus also.  I think he will win again in November.  I look forward to when that gets underway!  I'll find somewhere online, even if I have to pay, to watch every second of it!  Thank-you for posting, Bro!

TanookiNaz

@JoePanther, thanks for all that you did in the USN. I was 'brown water' Navy for 6 years and have found that chess does much the same for me; fighting PTSD symptoms. The logic and analysis portions help ID what is happening in those rough moments. Also, I have a similar attitude regarding learning and playing my best chess while likely never to be titled. Keep on fighting! All the best. ~Matt

@TanookiNaz  Brown Water Navy-PBRs  I greatly appreciate your Service to this Nation, man!!!  Gosh, 6 years....Wow!  Thank God you made back to 'the world'!

TanookiNaz

@RedThunderheart, thank you, and you are welcome! Couple of close calls, but luckily everyone made it back. To all our vets, Cheers! May we be united in our love of the game!

It's amazing you knew Bobby Fischer! Personally, I think being an old fart is a state of mind! ha! Being that you're here and part of the community... I highly doubt that is an accurate representation. I'll be looking forward to chatting some more. Best, ~Matt.

RedThunderheart

@TanookiNaz  You are correct, it is a state of mind!  I was just joking.  Being the age of 63, the odds of coming to Da End isn't nearly as far as it use to be....unfortunately.  But, yes, we keep hanging in there!  I'm still in pretty good health, so I'm thankful for that.  Take care Bro!

TanookiNaz

@RedThunderheart, who knows how quickly we'll meet the end, but (!!!) at least we have today!

RasputinRook

Morning all! My name is Ryan, and I've been playing chess for 11 years. I live in a very small state with very little chess, but I've been teaching it for 6 years in chess clubs. I'm a mid 1600 player and my goal is to hit master in two years. I was browsing chess streams in my free time and came across GMCanty's. I was able to play him in a blitz tournament (got smoked) but twas fun! I still haven't subbed yet but will be doing so soon. Another Jedi coming your way @GMCanty (or maybe Sith in my case).

Also I stream chess occasionally at https://www.twitch.tv/rooks14 . Shameless plug my b not really happy.png As my favorite chess player once said, "Good luck in the Black and White jungle."

RedThunderheart

@TanookiNaz  Amen, Bro!  happy.png

RedThunderheart

@ramccrea  One thing for sure, chess is a Black and White Jungle!  lol  Good luck on obtaining Master strength!

GMCanty

@Ramccrea AWESOME TO HAVE YOU BUDDY! Welcome to The GM Factory where the Jedi Train! Thanks for your support and coming to the stream so frequently!

Monday night I joined this group and played in 2 tournaments ran by GM Sir Canty, It was the most fun I have had on chess.com in a very long time! When I was a little kid I wanted so bad to learn this game but the truth was that I was afraid of not understanding anything and the person or persons teaching me would think I was an idiot. So for 30 years I really put the game down. Calling people who played nerds and losers! But deep inside I was dying to learn. When I was 30 years old I told a close friend this story and he said he could teach me! And just like that he taught me how the pieces move and I was playing! I loss 103 straight games to him before I finally beat him! True Story!!!  So here I am playing the BEST GAME in the world and after being a member on here for almost 10 years I finally found what feels like family! Thank You GM Sir Canty for accepting me as part of this great family and club!!!

RedThunderheart
