Chess is an art form, unless I play. Then it's an error
Is chess a sport or a game?

A defination I have had accepted by youngsters is that Chess depends on natural ability, the element of chance playing little or no part, in that sense it is more like a sport. Similar to other sports like Tennis or Football or Track and Field and different from games like Poker or Monopoly or Tomb Raider where chance plays a part or circumstances vary. Chess starts with a level field and can be an Olympic event, and was a trial event at one games I believe.

You mean your game is an error, the whole art, game, sport of chess is not being destroyed by your blunder LOL.
It is an art, a sport and a game as well. Most of it is art, afer that game, and a very bit part of it is sport. I think that you get to meet its real sport part after you become a great player.

If you do not sweat, then it is not a sport.
That is why golf can only ever be considered a pastime - for any golfer to win a "sportsperson" event, is a travesty.
Chess is the most beautiful intellectual pursuit on the planet, and to that extent, like all other pursuits, can be considered a "game".
