Is this unlucky?

i was gonna go for a strip mine, but i had to go down first right? i dug 5 blocks down when i heard zombies, so i thought they were just at the tip of the mine, so i wasn't worried, then i dug ONE more block down, and fell into a zombie spawner room, AND OF COURSE I DIED THERE WERE LIKE 10 ZOMBIES IN A TINY ROOM. I had no bed, and couldn't get my stuff before it despawned.
