Try another browser, there is surely some incompatibility.
I tried Firefox and it worked perfectly. Now here's to hoping either Brave or chess.com becomes more compatible ig...
Thanks for the help!

That you got the error message even after changing your board settings to default means your browser was using old data. You only needed to clear your (Brave) cache. There's no compatibility issue. Brave is based on Chromium, just like Google Chrome, Chess.com's recommended browser.
I cleared my browsing data, logged back in, and played again, and it still gave me an error. However, when I play not logged in in an incognito window, I do not get the error and it works just fine, so it is definitely a cache issue of some sort. I've changed and tweaked a lot of my settings in the past, I'll take a scroll through them and maybe change some back to default to see if that's the issue. Thanks everyone for the comments!
If it keeps giving me errors like this I'll just reset everything in my browser to default. Thing is I'm hoping to find exactly which setting or what thing is causing this so I can post it here for others to use.
I like to customise my board. However, since I signed up for beta, I've been receiving the message "issue rendering board, some of your settings will be ignored" whenever I started any game, and the board resets to default. I've tried changing the board settings all back to default, but I still get the error (even though nothing changes because I set them to default!).
Is anyone else experiencing this bug? I'm running in Brave browser, on a Linux OS (Ubuntu) in case anyone wants to know.
