Just a chessboard?

Is there a feature where you can have just a chessboard where you can play someone next to you except with your phone instead of an actual board? I've seen someone do it before but I don't know where to find it. Another thing was that when I saw someone have this mode on, the had to keep turning the phone to his opponent because the pieces all faced one way. Could the white pieces face the top of the phone and black face the bottom? (or vice versa.)

On the app if you play against the computer, you can tap on the computer icon and change it to a human. It'd be good to have that function on the web version as well actually, with all the features like option to auto-flip the board.
