I've been playing the KIA for a few years but I've always played the 1. Nf3 move order. I've recently started experimenting with the 1. e4 move order though and I've been looking into how to get a "KIA" set-up against 1. e5, 1. Nf6 and 1. d5.
I think how you played in the game will work against the Nxd5 Scandinavian but not so well against the Qxd5 Scandinavian because Black can throw in a check on the e-file when White doesn't have a convenient way to block.
For example:
So against the Qxd5 Scandinavian it's probably necessary to learn one of the more mainstream options.
If you want to get to a "KIA" type position against 1. e5 and 1. Nf6 then I recommend getting this free book from Chessable:
Short & Sweet: The King's Indian Attack
I am just starting to learn on KIA and gaining some of the ideas in KIA. I read in a book that certain openings just dont allow KIA because of the nature of themselves. Scandinavian being one of them. So I just came across an opponent and I thought lets try some ideas of KIA.
Would be glad if some of the seasoned KIA players can have a look and comment on what they think of it.
thanks,
Mayank
