- if you create a new game with the "I Play As" set to Random, then go inside this option and change it, then go back to options, it is set to White

First time I've used this app. Initial reactions as a new user are that it looks great and will no doubt be one of my favourites. A few initial observations:
1.Entered as guest and played Liu analyses video (top of page) - played fine but when I exited before it ended I got a misty white screen and couldn't get back into the app without restarting.
2.Captured black pieces are very difficult to see (black on black).
3.Lack of help - nothing to explain what the buttons are supposed to do. Have to learn by trial and error. I feel a good intro is really important for iphone entrants into chess.com. Not so much of an issue for chess.com experts but if you want to attract and keep newbies who find this through itunes then they will need they hands holding a bit. Maybe an intro splash screen when you first sign in with a users guide. Suggest you want to avoid 'false negative' reviews due to people not understanding how its supposed to work.
4.Sometimes there is a pause after touching some buttons. Not sure if this is because it is accessing internet or I haven't touched button correctly or if it's just crashed. I miss the 'spinning wheel' - accessing the internet indicator. This is an important aspect of the apps 'touch and feel' and it feels a little wrong at the moment. Have only seen this behaviour with one other app (and I've used loads) - Sparkpeople. Push a button, wait with no indication, then after 5 secs or so it does something. Very counter intutitive to iphone freaks and off putting. But not a problem if you have the 'spinning wheel' to tell you to wait. You don't notice it till its gone.
Just used the app for perhaps 5-10 mins but I think first impressions are important. There are loads of people who will try free apps and delete immediately if they can't get it to work straight away.
Hope that helps.. just trying to be constructive. Overall a really brill app.

captured pieces missing in computer mode and online when you close app and then go back to game. They re-appear when you go back through your moves.
Sometimes computer mode doesn't highlight the piece you want to move, but you can still move even though you can't tell which piece has been selected.
past games and online games still show with white on bottom (white's view) even when playing black.
I also find the black captured pieces hard to see against dark grey.
Very good points from Barnie especially point 3 and 4. Users will leave negative feedback if usability is not clear and simple esp with regards to help screen about buttons.
I'm having an issue with a particular online game. When I click on it, the program just shuts down. Tried this with other games and everything works good. Just one game in particular..? I'm also having some of the similar troubles as the other folks. The black captured pieces are hard to see against dark gray and I'm having to learn from trial and error what the buttons under the board are for. Also I tried playing the tactics and either got confused or the program locked up. Not sure which. Specifically I tried taking back a move and tactics wouldn't even respond. I set my computer strength to lowest and I feel that the bastard is still playing too good. LOL, but I do suck.
