Also, each time there would be a different setup of mines, I think 4 mines in total would be on the board
Landmine chess
You could probably implement it using koth, but it makes the other player win for the king. IDK how you would do it for the other pieces, make it random, and make it secret though.
Landmine chess would be played on a normal chess board, with all the pieces and same setup of regular chess. However, in the middle of the board (the rectangle a3 to h6), there would be a series of landmines. The players wouldn’t know where the landmines are though, and the mines can only be detonated once. Once the mine is detonated, an ❌ symbol would appear on the square that the mine was detonated on, and that square would be free to use with no risk of detonation. A mine can be detonated if a piece goes on it. A piece that lands on a mine would be removed from the game, and a king on a mine would be checkmated. I think this would be a great addition to variants as it adds an element of risk to the game. What do you think?
You could make it like Spell Chess, whr u have a specfic number of mines and u can place them in the battlefield (The area between starting Black and starting White). Makes it much more fun.
I like the idea, but how would you implement it into your own custom variant?
Whr can u make custom variants @jackityjackjack

I think it would be more fun if the position of the mines was randomised, otherwise people would put mines around a king or queen

I think that a not preset number of mines could increase tension. What about 3-5 mines?

That would make the game more interesting as players wouldn’t know when all mines have been detonated

Hi guys, been looking through custom variants, can't find a way to make one for landmine chess. Could someone help me find out how to add different mods to chess to make them into a variant (e.g. bombs/mines or for my own variants lasers to put on pieces)
Yes but that implies that it explodes when another piece is taken. Is it possible to make invisible pieces that are randomly generated?
I have thought that you could have landmines as atomic neutral pieces in a wof where each player has knightriders to detonate them.
