Live chess time controls...

I saw this forum post - https://www.chess.com/forum/view/livechess/3-minutes-per-move-chess and had a look at the time control options...

first thing i noticed was the number of clicks just to get to the custom option. click on "custom challenge", click on "3/2" to show more time controls, click on "more" to show yet more time controls, click on "custom" to set custom time controls...

null

Then, the fields for custom controls show 3 and 2, as shown above. I presume those to be minutes for the first field and seconds for the second, based on 3+2 being the common blitz format these days.

But it really isn't very clear at all. And i haven't tried to follow it through, but my guess is that you won't know whether you've set the challenge right until you have started your game.

The two fields should ideally indicate whether they mean minutes or seconds, especially since (as i think they are) they represent two different units of time...

Fair point! Ticketed to have it say "min" and "sec"

Is "min" an "sec" even clear enough?

Because they are actually "initial time in minutes" and "increment in seconds" Plus there is the 3rd one you only see if you put a 0 for initial time and that one is "initial time in seconds"

Perhaps a tool tip is the way to go?

i can't remember now how it looked in v2, but ISTR it being much simpler.

is there really any need for all the extra clicks?
