Message Notification Alert Won't Clear in New Sidebar

In the new sidebar, the Notification Alert counted down and cleared just fine when I opened the forums for which I received the alerts but the 1 in the red circle will not go away in the Message Alert icon even though I have no outstanding messages to read.

maybe click clear alerts? will that make it go away, new UI makes it so annoying..;

I was looking for something that said Clear Alerts but after reading your suggestion I looked more carefully and found the checkmark to mark the message as read. Of course in the past the alert cleared automatically, but this is an "upgrade" so a downgrade should be the expected result.

Are you sure there wasn't a chat? Or an unread message?

Also, I've noticed if you keep messaging open the the alert doesn't go away until you navigate away.

It definitely was not a chat because I tried hitting Chat to see if it was a chat and it showed no chats. And I repeatedly checked that I had read all my messages. But checking off the message read checkmark worked.

And I also logged out and logged back in and the alert was still there.
