Message Notifications

This is less of a bug and more of improper registering, but occasionally, after I view a new message and exit the page, the alert for a new message reappears in a few minutes, but it's just notifying me of the message I've already viewed.

I'm not sure if others are having this issue, but I find it very annoying and distracting when the UI repeatedly tells me I have a new message or alert when I'm in the middle of a game.

The issue also occurs, on occasion, when I dismiss an alert, as well.

I also have an issue where achievement notifications show as alerts, but when I check, nothing is there except for an empty alert box. The alert disappears when I open the tab but reappears when I change pages.

@cooperalexander  I have been having this exact same issue lately.  And I agree, it is quite annoying.  I will get a notification of a new forum post, a trophy sent to me, or a trophy earned in a tournament, and once I view it and dismiss it, a few seconds later it's back in my alert menu.

I havent this problem...

Try clearing cache.

@bakimikic  Are you referring to clearing the cache of temporary files (cookies) from your web browser?  If so, I do this regularly, almost on a daily basis.

I, and most others it seemed at the time, were having this issue quite some time ago, say 18 months, and, as I recall, it was for most notifications.

It was fixed then but now that you mention it,  I have had it happen about three times in the last week.

Avatar of Jonani

@Karnakatz  I've only noticed it for the first time within the past few weeks.  It doesn't happen with all notifications, but only occasionally appears.

Avatar of Karnakatz

Same, @Jonani and that's the case now. The earlier problem was a lot worse and wasn't the, "Overnight fix", that I thought that it may or should have been. (Then, I don't work on CC's computers). happy.png

Ha! Just happened again when I l left here. grin.png

@Karnakatz  I'm sure they are in the works to fix this issue.  We just have to be patient.  And also be thankful we have such an A+mazing chess site to play on and meet like minded individuals! happy.png

There will always be "something to fix" or a suggestion on new and improved "features".  This will never truly end.  So the sooner we can adapt to this understanding the better.  My point in short, is that some people (not anyone in this forum post) are more impatient than others.  And we don't always consider or have knowledge of truly how much work is going on "behind the scenes" to make chess.com the best website for chess in the world.

Thanks, Nathan but it wasn't meant as a complaint - simply the irony. grin.png

@Karnakatz  I never interpreted your comment as a complaint whatsoever.

I should have clarified this in my last comment, but your comment just reminded me of how a lot of people (most not intentionally or maliciously) bring forth concerns (bugs, miscellaneous things that need to be fixed, etc.) and just reminded me of every now and then (especially 4 Player Chess) you play either against a player or with a partner and they seem so petty and seem to enjoy throwing in very negative comments.  Those type of people don't seem to be here to enjoy the game of chess, but more so just antagonize other players and cheat, etc.

I apologize if my comment came across as thinking you were complaining.  That was not at all my intention! happy.png

It was one of those situations where, in your head what you're saying makes sense, but you leave out the other half of explaining what you're trying to communicate to the other person.

I wasn't offended, mate. just wanted to clarify. (Your turn?)happy.png Now go to bed. happy.png

@Karnakatz  I appreciate the clarification! happy.png  It's only 12:51 am here.  And around 2:51 pm in Australia?  I'm not sure if Australia has more than one time zone.  I think Canada has 4 at least that I can think of.

Avatar of Karnakatz

Yup. You were right with the time for the East Coast. We have 2.5 time zones. happy.png. The .5 is for a State, South Oz, that's .5 hours behind us. Oz is two hours, East to West. We're almost the size of the Contiguous USA but only six States and two Territories. (One of those is the Aust. Capital Territory, small in size and could be compared to the US's DC). The other, the Northern Territory is about 1.5 times the size of Texas but a population of fewer than 250,000.

I have an issue where the alerts stay until you see another one, or check it off.

Avatar of amrugg

Using Chrome.

@amrugg  I think a lot of people are having this problem.  I'm not sure, but I think it's probably a problem with the site and not people's individual computers and/or web browsers.  I could be wrong though.
